A suburban town in the Dallas metro area, Prosper is a thriving community that’s grown considerably in recent years. Its motto is “Small Town, Big Heart,” and the town’s distinct sense of community has made it a popular place for young families to settle down. Prosper is less than 30 miles from the bustling city of Dallas, making a daily commute fairly doable – though there are plenty of opportunities to both work and play in your new hometown.

Living in Prosper

As a family-oriented community, Prosper has placed a large focus on providing places and events that cater to children and adults alike. Despite the small-town feel, the town provides plenty to see and do.

More than 350 acres are dedicated to open park-land and recreational facilities in addition to over 20 miles of walking and biking trails. You’ll find a balance of large community parks and small neighborhood play areas, putting family-friendly play areas within easy reach. Frontier Park is one of the largest of Prosper’s parks, featuring walking trails, a children’s playground, a catch-and-release fishing pond, sports fields and batting cages. Other parks, including Pecan Grove Park feature scenic surroundings and outdoor activities including kayaking and canoeing.

Sports and community activities are also plentiful in Prosper. Youth and adult sports leagues, educational teen camps and a senior citizen community club provide options for all ages. Events and programs are also hosted at the community library.

If you’re looking for a way to get to know your new neighbors, the numerous community events in Prosper make it easy. At the end of every summer, a community picnic takes place at Frontier Park. Bounce houses, face painting, food trucks, a petting zoo and other kid-friendly activities are featured at the picnic, and local non-profits set up informational booths for citizens who are interested in community service. Other community events include the fishing derby, National Night Out and the annual holiday festival.

Prosper Schools

The Prosper Independent School District serves the public elementary, middle and high schools in the community. Private and charter schools provide alternative education options for your child, and some enroll children as young as those of preschool age.

• Transportation: Prosper’s closest public transportation system is the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

Home prices in Prosper are considerably higher than in many other small towns across the country and continue to rise steadily.
