Addison is a small town in Dallas County, Texas, situated just north of the major city of Dallas. The town is best known for its thriving nightlife scene as well as a number of highly-rated restaurants. It's a popular community for young, single professionals and married couples, though families with children do make up a portion of the local population.

The History of Addison

Located in an area once called Peters Colony, Addison was originally settled in 1846 by Preston Witt and his wife. The couple built a house on White Rock Creek, but the area wouldn't be known as Addison until 1902, when the town was named after Addison Robertson, who later served as the community's postmaster.

Addison was officially incorporated in 1953, and the town's school building was annexed in 1954, becoming part of the Dallas Independent School District the following year. The city experienced explosive growth during the 1970s and '80s, and today Addison's weekday population typically grows tenfold due to daily commuters.

Schools in Addison are part of Dallas Independent School District, which serves 12 counties in north central Texas. There are also a few private schools, including Greenhill School, Trinity Christian Academy and Trinity Christian School.
