The History of Milwaukie
The original inhabitants of the land where Milwaukie now sits were the Clackamas Indians. Whitcomb established a grist mill and saw mill, which were among the first signs of industry in the small settlement.
After the town was founded, a pair of brothers earned attention for the community with their development of the famous Bing cherry. The railroad arrived in the 1870s, and Milwaukie was incorporated by an act of the Oregon State Legislature in 1903.
