Parker is a rapidly growing town in Colorado's Douglas County, located just 12 miles south of Aurora and 24 miles southeast of downtown Denver. The town is known as a tight-knit community, offering a range of recreational activities and community events. The History of Parker

Parker's history began in 1860, when a one-room shack from Pine Grove was moved to Cherry Creek to serve as a stage stop. The shack expanded to a 10-room inn and a community was built around it, eventually evolving into Parker. The town was named after James Sample Parker, a key figure in the town's history. Parker bought the inn in 1874 and added a blacksmith shop and general store to the facility, later building the town's first school and encouraging the construction of roads, ditches, telephone lines and the Denver and New Orleans Railroad in the area. In 1981, Parker was officially incorporated, and it has been growing exponentially ever since.

Parker's Local Economy

Parker has an unemployment rate that's significantly lower than the national average. Recent job growth has passed the national average, which is a good sign if you're looking for a job in the city. Medtronics, OraLabs and Mountain Man Nut & Fruit are just some of the large companies based in Parker.

A large percentage of the local population holds sales, office and administrative support roles. Roughly a quarter of local jobs are provided by the management, business and finance sectors. The retail industry is especially strong thanks to the Shop Parker initiative, which encourages residents to support local businesses and spend money within the town.

Parker Schools

Douglas County School District is responsible for the public elementary, middle and high schools in Parker, as well as a handful of public charter schools. The district has earned state-wide recognition for having one of the highest graduation rates in the Denver metropolitan area. You also have the option of enrolling your child in one of the local faith-based or Montessori private schools.
