Oklahoma City Storage Units Added to Serve More Sooners Than Ever Before

Public Storage is excited to welcome 10 new properties to the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and beyond, greatly expanding how we help Oklahomans get organized in the Sooner State.
Our newest additions feature beautiful red brick buildings with wood siding with hundreds of new climate controlled storage units as well as a great mix of outdoor units for customers not only in Oklahoma City but in Edmond, Moore, Yukon and Norman.
The new additions to our lineup contributes to a 21% increase in Public Storage units in the Sooner State area since 2016, for a total of 37 locations.
“These new properties give us a bigger footprint, especially in the south side of Oklahoma City, so we can help service more customers than ever before,” shared Kenton Langston, Public Storage district manager who oversees the area.
Oklahoma City Metro Area Seeing Growth
An earlier acquisition in 2016 added properties to the northern part of the city, so we are thrilled to be able to serve customers in new areas of Oklahoma City.
The acquisition could not have come at a better time, as Oklahoma real estate is booming. In fact, Oklahoma City is now the 22nd largest city in the U.S., with a 17% growth over the past decade.
Openings and revitalizations of Oklahoma City attractions such as adventure site RiverSport OKC, The National Hotel, the Devon Energy Tower, and even a potential aquarium are poised to draw in even more transplants. The population for the Oklahoma City metro area is expected to rise to 1.5 million people by 2023.
New metro locations will serve the buzzy Bricktown neighborhood with its converted warehouses, galleries, breweries and hip shopping opportunities, as well as offer proximity to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and the Museum of Osteology, for fans of all things bones and skeletons.
Other areas that benefit from the expansion include Yukon, Edmond, and Norman, where some of these new locations will bring a second or third Public Storage facility, giving customers even more choices and convenience in how they store.
Langston credits Public Storage’s commitment to developing technology that makes self storage easier as part of our appeal to younger, more tech-savvy customers, especially the college students at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
With features like an eRental program that offers contactless move-ins and the Public Storage app, where customers can pay their bill and unlock their gates, Public Storage is taking organization into the 21st century.
“Now, you can rent your unit on your phone, and even pay your bill while you’re sitting at a stop light,”; Langston says. “Especially when it comes to our college towns, they expect to be able to use their phones for everything. We didn’t have that technology a year ago, so now that we do, it’s so much easier for our customers, and we love providing that.”
It’s not just college students who are embracing this new generation of storage. Oklahoma City ranks as one of the best cities for first-time home buyers, enticing professionals and young families to the area.
The city offers plenty to do for young families, including the Oklahoma City Zoo, Myriad Botanical Gardens, and Scissortail Park.
For sports fans, Oklahomans cheer mightily for their Oklahoma City Thunder, the OKC Energy, and, of course, the Oklahoma Sooners.
With so much growth in the area and new residents continuing to flock to Oklahoma City and the surrounding communities for its affordable cost-of-living, booming job opportunities, and plenty to do, the Public Storage will continue to meet the storage needs of this great state.
