Experienced Workers Thrive at Public Storage

Not long ago, Ben celebrated two major milestones: his 17th year at Public Storage and his 82nd birthday. And this experienced worker is looking forward to celebrating many more birthdays and work anniversaries in the years ahead.
“I don’t plan to retire anytime soon,” he says. “I’m in good health. I like this work, and it’s fun. After I was awarded a Circle of Excellence award from the company, I told my manager: ‘This is a great honor for just doing something I really enjoy doing.’ ”
Team members like Ben thrive at Public Storage. As a member of the AARP Employer Pledge Program, we are proud to have an age-inclusive workforce where experienced workers can succeed and grow.
A lifelong commitment to helping others
Before joining Public Storage as a Property Manager, Ben spent many years in the real estate industry.
“I’ve been in sales all my life,” he says. “I really enjoy working with people, and I’m a problem-solver. If a customer comes in and has a problem, I can take care of it. Public Storage is a good match for me.”
Many people who need self-storage space are moving or going through a big change, Ben said. With his people skills and problem-solving ability, he can make a major difference in customers’ lives during times of transformation.
“It’s like handing the keys over to a first-time homebuyer,” he says. “You get to help people.”
Supporting experienced workers
Public Storage offers great opportunities for experienced workers aged 50 or over, Ben says. “The work is interesting and not too physical. It’s got good benefits. You can set your own hours, part-time or full-time.”
The company provides a supportive and safe environment for retired people who may need or want some extra income. Ben, a U.S. military veteran who served in Vietnam, says Public Storage is also a welcoming employer to veterans and retired veterans and their spouses. Along with the AARP Employer Pledge, we are proud to be part of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership program.
Off the job, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and family and tending the garden at his newly built home. And he continues to find fulfillment in his work helping customers at Public Storage.
“You see it all come to fruition when you help a person get the space they need,” he says.
