The History of West Valley City

The land where West Valley City now stands was originally home to the Ute and Shoshoni Native American tribes. They were the area's only inhabitants until the mid-1800s, when members of the Latter day Saints established a settlement. However, the area was mostly rural and sparsely populated until the mid-1900s. At that time, it was split into four distinct communities: Redwood, Granger, Chesterfield and Hunter. In 1980, the four came together and incorporated as West Valley City.

West Valley City boasts a diverse economy that provides plenty of opportunity if you're looking for a job in the area. Its unemployment rate is well below the national average, and commutes are also very short, two factors that benefit working locals of West Valley City.

West Valley City Schools

Granite School District serves much of Salt Lake County, including West Valley City. Outside the public district, two well-known schools in the area are American Preparatory Academy and East Hollywood High School, a film education charter school.
