Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 363 Portion Road, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Went to location to help my father with getting a storage Samantha was very helpful with answering all our questions and making sure we got the right unit. Property was clean and staff was genuine Definitely recommend. Thank you

This is by far the worst storage unit I have dealt with. First off, I got my unit on the 20th of the month and then not even 2 weeks later I'm getting called about late payments because they charge on the first of the month so I paid full price for 10 days then they blow my phone up about late payments. Then there's never anyone in the building to deal with or anyone to answer any calls and with absolutely no clarity on their end they sell my unit at auction that was a month late. And then they don't care at all. I had documents and photos from family members that have passed and instead of them properly trying to get in contact with me they sold all my stuff. You'd be better off paying a homeless person to watch your stuff than these absolute crooks. They should be ashamed of the business they are running. And all the positive reviews that are on here are asked for and not genuine. Public storage is the definition of a shady business.

If I could give zero stars, I would. To start, we rented our unit at this facility almost 2 years ago and signed up mid month. Unbeknownst to us that whether you sign up and pay a full month any day between the 2nd and last few days of a month, you sure are being charged for a whole month the very next 1st of the following month. So right from the beginning not only did we pay a whole month of storage for only 2 physical weeks, we also realize they lock up the carts and can only access them during normal office hours. Meaning if the facility is accessible 24/7, you better do your heavy hauling when the office is open, or better yet should I say when someone in the office decides to be there. And yes while we were moving our things in the 1st week I checked with the front desk for the possibility of allowing us to retain the cart past “business hours”, and the only solution provided was to purchase my own cart (because I guess the amount we paid for our first 2 weeks/ month wasn’t enough). Flash forward to a few months here and there, life is busy and days get away so admittedly there were a couple times we had been late by a week on payment and I guess understandable they lock your unit until payment is made. The end all be all just this past month was a late payment to no fault of our own, but we were sent 1 “final” vague email (let’s be real, I don’t know of many people who are in their inboxes constantly checking and I’m sure most people have a bunch of emails like myself that automatically get sent to junk), 1 phone call with another vague voicemail, and then payment was made 2 weeks late (yes I know it’s our responsibility to make the payment on time). Payment gets made and then from the Home Screen we get an alert that our unit was auctioned off the literal day before! Now most of our belongings have been moved into our new home however, there was mostly sentimental items and a few pieces of furniture, along with some stuff that I probably don’t even remember the contents of. My only concern was the sentimental items, and the possibility that we had documents pertaining to our identity, date of birth, social security numbers, etc. Customer service 800 number had the audacity to ask if we would be interested in renting a new unit, the actual office is impossible to get in touch with, and regardless of the payment being 2 weeks late and I’m sure “contract states blah blah” will come into play. How does 2 “final” attempts at contacting us with never actually speaking to either of us on the account suffice to auction and sell our unit?? Word of advice for anyone interested in renting not only here, but any public storage… setup auto pay or go with a mom n pop storage facility because this company and the manager of the facilities could care less about your belongings or the amount of money you spend each month entrusting them with your belongings.

I had an exceptional experience with Sam at the front desk. After a frustrating experience at another location, I arrived at this one just 10 minutes before closing. Sam was incredibly helpful and managed to get me a storage unit within 5 minutes, despite the time crunch. Her professionalism and efficiency truly turned my day around. I can’t thank her enough for her outstanding customer service! Highly recommend this location.

How I got here: I was forced to put mine and my children's belongings in storage while I search for a new home. The search has been hard and long, and not where I ever imagined myself. With that being said, I do like the convenience of Public Storage. I rent a large garage space and utilize the PS app to open and close the gate and also pay my rent. The facility feels safe and clean. However, I was disappointed when I received a notification of a sudden $70 price increase. Fortunately, when I called the office, Brayan was very courteous and gracious, working with me to resolve the issue in a way that worked for me.

Come here to pay more and more, month after month, as they keep increasing their rates, look the place isn't bad but this gouging is just an insult to existing customers. If there was a resolution to this I would use my main account but I highly doubt they would be amicable to a resolution. It a shame they find it necessary to change the terms so frequently.

Never mind, I need to update my review bases on my experience in Farmingville, not Ronkonkoma. They damaged my property, cut my locks when they said they wouldn’t. I had to make a damage report to my items. They start increasing the rent to current tenants while keeping the same space cheaper for new people. Unreliable. And they lie. Record conversations you have with them as they never keep their word and find tricks to overcharge

I have usually never had problems with this location, but that’s probably because I’ve never ran into the staff here on account of them never actually being there to help. Today was the one day I had accidentally left the moving cart at my house, under the impression that I could just rent the one that they had there. They started locking it up about a year or two ago presumably because people were stealing them, but I knew there was always the office you could go and ask for them to unlock it. Not only was there no one in the office to actually unlock it or help me get the cart, but when I called the public storage number on the door the representative on the other side said that it “should be open” even though there was no one there. Called the store directly, no answer. I was still there when it was supposed to be open but there was not a soul to help me unlock the cart. Why lock the cart or the garbage container if there’s not gonna be anyone to unlock it there, even during the posted office hours? Temperature control is also absolutely horrible at this location, especially during the summer months. If you expect to keep anything or move anything in cooler temperatures, do not rent out the upper floor because it can get humid very quickly. All the other reviews tout about the great customer service; that is probably true, but only if you catch the lady at the front desk in the hour that she shows up each day. Choose another location.

I used this Public Storage location to store furniture in a couple of units and have had a great experience. While I mostly used the app to handle everything without having to contact the local staff, the staff here is extremely courteous & professional and quick to respond or even reach out if they notice issues. Angela & Matt helped fix a reservation mistake I made quickly and apply the credit to the proper reservation. The facilities are clean & well lit and have never had an issue accessing my units. 10/10 would rent again!
