Coulwood West Public Storage provides customers with various self storage choices on the south side of Mt. Holly Road, one mile from Interstate 485.

Great experience
My experience here was amazing. The ladies at the front desk are exceptional and such a delight to deal with. Have already recommended location to several colleagues of mine.
Really quick, very detailed, and good customer service.
Terrible scam artists. Let's start with this location, the staff is unprofessional, won't open the door, won't answer a phone (not even when it's corporate trying to reach them.) They absolutely refuse to do their jobs. As for the the conglomerate of Public Storage as a whole, they and the many storage places like them are a scam. In 2 years we've had 3 rate increases resulting in our bill being OVER 100% more than when we started. They continue to hike up rates until you can't afford them, then attempt to hold your belongings hostage when they finally hit the mark you can't sustain. Given the State-of-Emertency placed on NC due to Hurricane Helene the pre scheduled rate hike should have been placed on a hold until the SoE was over. Instead, in the midst of thousands losing their homes including the very neighborhood I live in being flooded, they've decided it's best to add insult to the injury already inflicted. We have reported them to the NCDOJ and highly recommend everyone else doing the same! Not only with Public Storage but rate hikers at this time. You can do so thought NCDOJ website! It's super easy to do! Don't let them rob you at a time when it feels like youve already lost everything.

I have rented from this place for almost 5 years now and they keep going up on their rent. Now it’s jumped over $100.00 this time!! Ive NEVER been late renting as long as I have. The lady said, call back next year, we’ve already given you a discount. What for 6 months?? Then you slammed me by 100.00. I gotta move out because I can’t afford it but I’m disabled now that’s going to take awhile!! Merry Christmas family, no gifts!!!

Clean and well-kept storage facility/unit. Brittany was extremely personable and helped me find the perfect unit for items that needed to be stored away. I bought 2 wardrobe boxes and packaging tape. I paid cash. I found out that I didn't need the items. I returned items unused and unopened. I was told my money would be refunded by check since they do not have cash on the premises. Now remember I paid cash for the supplies. This has been going on since Januray 2024. I have not received any money back and no one seems to be able to get me my refund back. I am not happy about the situation at all and learned a valuable lesson. I will NEVER go here, rent anything, or purchase anything else from this place.

We drove for over 11 hrs with a full truckload and waited for hours for someone to come to the door. While we were waiting, 2 other customers left that had been waiting before us.
No one was in the office for HOURS! Called customer service multiple times with no luck on getting someone in the office to rent a unit. Then was told by the last agent I spoke with that this location is “by appointment only” but there is nothing listed on the website or at the office stating this. Customer service kept pushing for us to go ahead and purchase a unit without even being able to go in and look at what size we need!
Horrible experience and I will make sure no one wastes their time or money at this place.
Top notch establishment! It comes with a story. Was taking my 4 wheeler for a tuneup and on the way I got a flat tire on my trailer. I pulled in to the storage unit to ask if I could park my trailer and 4 wheeler in the parking lot while I went to get a new tire. As I entered the front door I noticed how clean and orderly everything was. The employees were warm and welcoming. They even went above and beyond and invited me to park my trailer behind the fence where it would be safe while I was gone. What a blessing Brittany, Tim and Mitchell are. Hats off to you guys.

The service at this facility is non existent. Offices are closed and unnatended during business hours. Signs on the door saying "we'll be back." Manager never returns calls or voicemails.
Tonight I drove an hour one way to drop off a truckload of belongings and my access code wouldn't open the gate during approved hours. Called customer service and they confirmed my code and attempted to reset the key pad. It didn't work. They reached out to the regional manager with no response leaving me to drive an hour back with a full truckload.
The last time I was here there were abandoned puppies in the climate controlled building where my unit is located. Before that the office was closed and locked in the middle of the day for five hours.
Save your money and store your belongings elsewhere.
My experience with my Public Storage is ,and has been awesome. They treat me like more of a friend, but on a professional level. The place is always clean and in order, and staff is always friendly and accommodating. Glad I chose this location.

Wow where do I start I’m a newcomer to North Carolina and Brittany was awesome (as well as her team) from start to finish. She was very pleasant and informative as well as professional. Brittany continue to do your thing girl and Thanks for everything. I feel very comfortable leaving my things in your facility. Just for notation because I have read the previous comments my overhead is opened and damaged I reported to Brittany just because someone can get in without tampering with the lock she also made note of it.
Worst storage unit on the face of the earth the app sucks the gates and elevators are slow from the customer service number to the management down to the people that work the desk are trash my account is paid in full I have my personal lock on the unit I have 2 days to get my stuff out and they put a overlock on my unit Terrible experience 20 out of 10 would never do again

Don't do business at this location. They give out your info and just let anybody into your personal storage without notifying you. My personal property was stolen out of my storage space and one of the employees at this location helped them do it. Been trying to speak to someone from corporate since August and NO ONE will return my calls. The only person that has tried to help me fix the situation is Brittany, the property manager at this location and I appreciate her for that. The sad part is that I even had insurance on my storage unit and it was denied because they said the lock/storage unit didn't look tampered with. It didn't look tampered with because one of the public storage employees had my lock cut off and put a different lock on there after they let the person that stole my stuff access it. I hope someone from Public Storage corporate office will read this because I will be filing a lawsuit.

The facility itself is very nice. The company is tricky. They advertise a competitive rate for their unit then tack on a mandatory 15.00 dollar insurance fee. So your basically paying for their insurance coverages. The rent has increased almost 100.00 dollars in 2 years. I started at 78 + the 15 at 92.00 a month. I now pay a total of 178.00 a month.
I just want to give a shout out to Tiffany who helped me ( a 68 year old woman), rent a storage space. I called and called and asked so many questions and she was so kind and thoughtful, plus very patient with me. It was my first time to store anything. She made it so much easier. Thank you, thank you Tiffany, I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness and patience. Blessings ❣

Four months after moving my stuff in, they increased my rent by 31% without notice. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE.
Update: In 19 months, they have now increased my rent 71%.

I would like to give big kudos to Lauren the property manager and her staff at this location. My husband and I started renting a indoor storage unit before we sold our house, and right near our move out date, we needed to rent a last minute second unit, and with the help of staff, we were able to store additional stuff, and when it came time to clear out the space, the process was easy peasy. I would highly recommend this location to any of our family and friends, that need a place to secure and store their belongings temporarily or long term!!
