Public Storage CEO Joe Russell, along with leaders from across the company, celebrated our 50th Anniversary by ringing the New York Stock Exchange opening bell today.
The company was officially formed on August 14, 1972. Five decades later, we have 5,000 team members who help us serve approximately 1.7 million customers across 2,900 locations.
We are now a publicly-traded S&P 500 business and have become the most recognized brand in the self-storage industry.
“Today is a momentous occasion as we continue to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.”; Russell said in a statement. “On behalf of the current and prior management, I want to thank the Public Storage team for their invaluable contributions and our expanding customer base for their continued confidence in us. As we reflect on the successes of our past and present, I am very optimistic and excited about our future.”;

We’ve celebrated this wonderful milestone all year and last month we offered giveaways to customers in appreciation for their continued support throughout the decades.
In addition, we’re spotlighting some of our longtime employees – everyone from a property manager to an executive— who have grown their careers with us over the years. We’ll continue to share their stories here.
For now, enjoy these images below and see what it was it was like for our team as they celebrated the opening bell this morning!
