New Public Storage in Gilbert, Arizona Now Open

Once a quiet town known as the “Hay Capital of the U.S.,”; the streets of Gilbert are now abuzz with activity thanks to the sounds of home construction and moving trucks headed into the Grand Canyon State. And a new Public Storage in Gilbert is ready to provide some more space away from home.

Our latest Public Storage at 4040 S. Val Vista Dr. Gilbert, AZ 85297 opened this week with hundreds of new units to serve residents flocking to this growing frontier.

Over time, Gilbert’s population has grown to 40 times its size in 1980, according to the city’s website. This is likely the result of an influx of jobs drawing in techies from expensive, west coast metro areas into less expensive areas in inland communities like Gilbert.

The single-story Public Storage facility has modern storage units near the Chandler city border. Less than a mile from the 202 Freeway, the location is easy to find on the corner of South Val Vista Drive and East Germann Road.

“This is the best facility of the four properties we have in the area, thanks to its location,”; said Bryan Miranda, vice president of Public Storage’s west coast development.

Strong Real Estate and Job Market in Phoenix Suburbs

In the last five years, Gilbert’s population grew nearly 14 percent, according to U.S. Census data, and it’s no wonder when you look west to its coastal neighbor. While real estate prices continue to climb to unaffordable levels in California, the Phoenix area is the top destination for moving Angelenos.

The median Gilbert home price is $275,000, which is less than half the price of a house in the City of Angels and a fourth of the average price for a San Francisco home, according to the real estate site Trulia.

“Gilbert had a lot of farm land, which was rezoned and turned into tract-home developments,”; said Jeff Fisher, of Arizona Realty. “You see a lot of people are migrating from metro areas in California and Seattle. Anywhere that’s had an uptick in the market, because they can sell their homes and come here with a pocketful of cash that can go a long way.”;

Besides the abundant and affordable housing, the job market in and around Phoenix is flourishing. Companies including PayPal, GoDaddy and State Farm are just a few that set up shop in The Valley of the Sun.

In fact, the number of tech companies in downtown Phoenix has quadrupled in the last five years, according to a speech by Mayor Greg Stanton. And other industries are following.

Regardless of why newcomers choose Gilbert, it’s clear they enjoy polished suburbs. The small town has big-city amenities, including the SanTan Village shopping center and stores on most street corners outside the residential areas.

“It’s a diverse economy,”; said Miranda. “People are moving to the area for the jobs, and it’s not uncommon for retirees to have second homes in town to escape cold winters.”;

Providing Cheap Storage in Gilbert, Arizona

Public Storage has three other facilities in town, and it brought in an additional 868 units for residents and businesses when it opened the facility near the Gilbert Commerce Center.

Movers near Eagle Glen can find enough space to unclutter a couple of closets at home in a 5×5 unit, while small businesses can rent a 10×30, drive-up unit for extra warehouse space close to work.

The property is just a 15-minute drive from the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which is expected to grow and expand in the upcoming years. So it should be a good location for the incoming jobs expected near the runways.

“Gateway airport is expanding by leaps and bounds,”; said Fisher. “It’s going to be a huge job center.”;

But it’s not all work and no play in Gilbert, Arizona and the East Valley. The Hale Centre Theatre, Postino East wine bar and Liberty Market Restaurant are some new spots that keep locals happy.

And the farm-town feel is anything but dead in this trendy town, thanks to the Gilbert Days Parade and the 24-hour Agritopia Farm Stand, which operates on the honor system.

“When Gilbert was still a small town, everyone thought of it as a rural area,”; said Fisher. “It still has that old-town feel, but it’s becoming a hip spot.”;
