I’ve had this unit on the 2nd floor for a year. I go every couple of months. No problem. I’ve noticed the past few times the facility hasn’t been as clean as when I first got the unit. Today was no different. Today I went after the last time mid July and discover rat poop in my unit. Ironically another customer was at his unit in the same hall. He tells me he had to move storage units because his old one had rat poop. Definitely calling corporate to inform them and demand some compensation because they’re having an infestation and not telling anyone.
Update: after they transferred my storage unit, I cleaned my things and moved it. I come back to the new storage unit to see mouse poop on top of my things again. I am on a completely different floor now and still having the same issue. This place seems to have a growing mouse problem, not only in the units but by the elevator as well. Store your items in a different facility.

How in the world this place has a good rating is beyond me!! This place has gone down hill severely!! I made the office aware of rat infestation back in July, and to this day NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE!
The rats are huge and have taken over the whole place!!
I had to throw out several of my items because they were damaged!
There’s no maintenance of the place!!
My unit is filled with rat feces! Very unsanitary! And reaching corporate seems impossible!
Not to mention they jack up rates constantly! Paying so much just so your items het damaged!

MAJOR RAT INFESTATION. 5200 Gulfton St. We walked into our unit to find rat feces and urine, and LIVE rats inside. The manager said she could not help us. District manager was supposed to contact us never did. Do not consider this location. Unbelievable. From other reviews it is apparent they knew about this problem at least 7months ago. Completely negligent.Update: after calling customer service several times, DISTRICT MANAGER was supposed to call after 72 hours, never did. Called again, waited another 72 hours no response. They waived our fee for one month, and wanted us to change our unit. To move our destroyed property covered in rat fences and urine? To fight the live rats to take out things out? Because we still trust them to keep our things safe? Their response is insulting. This is not a serious company. Unprofessional, unethical.
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience to warn others.
Avoid this storage facility if you value your belongings. When I visited my unit, I discovered it had been infested with rats that had chewed through and damaged my artwork and handmade tapestries. The smell was unbearable, and rat droppings were scattered throughout the facility, indicating this was not only my unit.
I moved out all my belongings immediately.
I had rented a climate-controlled unit, but the temperature inside felt well above the advertised 82°F, more like 85°F or higher. The space was extremely humid, making it clear that their climate control measures are insufficient.
Reaching out to corporate was no help. They showed no concern, simply stating that they “recommend not storing valuables” and suggesting that renters have insurance. This lack of accountability is unacceptable, especially considering their prices, which increase every three months.
The purpose of having a Storage is to store valuables that you don’t have space in your place to store and you pay for that

I rented a climate-controlled unit, but the temperature felt much hotter than the claimed 82°F, likely above 85°F, with high humidity levels that made it feel stifling. The supposed climate control was far from adequate.
In summary: This storage facility is poorly maintained, lacks sufficient climate control. I would not recommend storing anything valuable or important here.

RAT INFESTATION!!! Don't go to this place. I went to my storage unit to get things out and there was rat feces and urine all over my things and then we saw the live rats. The property manager said that the property is not responsible, despite the fact that the building has a rat infestation. We read that this is the second time in seven months that they have these issues. AVOID THIS PLACE AND THIS STORAGE COMPANY!
I have been renting from this location for almost four years. My experience with the facility was good until a couple of months ago. I have interacted with a good amount of staff with my time there and hands down, Latoia has been the most helpful and kindest I have met so far. She was so understanding, patience, and got answers to my questions. She restored a customer service experience I thought almost didn’t exist anymore. She made my day. I would give her 10 stars.

How this facility received this good of a rating baffles me. Let me start with the elevator that was out for over a year. The bathrooms without keys that were out of order for six months. Then when they replaced the locks, you couldn’t lock from the inside. How if the elevator is broke the units can only be accessed during business hours. How they make it the tenants responsibility to turn in people living in units. So nothing would ever be done. Hallways smell like urine and excrement that the employees would leave to sit for days.
Everything was good when I first started renting from here. Then that manager left and it was a revolving door of managers and workers. They gatekeep contacting the district manager if they can’t handle an issue. Takes an act of God to get in contact with corporate. Now there new thing is locking the office doors while they are sitting in the office during business hours.
I’d go elsewhere. You have been warned.

Hands down one of the most pleasant experience with public storage ! The property manager Tavielle was so welcoming and the atmosphere was so friendly. She explained everything to us and helped us far beyond anyone has ever helped us in a public storage. Her kindness and energy was unmatched. She even gave us suggestions on what to use when we move to make it easier for us even down to the tape we should use to hold our boxes together. Simply would recommend anyone to this public storage as long as her energy is around! More employees need to learn from her !

Despite the previous unpleasant experience I had at Gulfton Public Storage, on July 30th, the delivery driver and I were fortunate to speak with Manager Ms. LaToia at 9:30 a.m. regarding my previous encounter.
Ms. LaToia exhibited exceptional listening skills by maintaining simplicity, demonstrating understanding, asking clarifying questions, summarizing key points, showing empathy, and allowing me to freely express my concerns without interruption or criticism.
Additionally, she paraphrased to ensure comprehension and responded thoughtfully to my detailed complaint. I was pleasantly surprised by her composure and professionalism in addressing my concerns.
From the moment I spoke to her over the phone, her welcoming voice tone revealed a strong sense of empathy. She immediately assured me that she was there to help resolve my issue.
Upon receiving my information, she promptly reset the Gate Code to see if that would resolve the issue and even walked with the delivery guy to the Gate Console to check.
Despite the initial attempt not resolving the issue, Ms. LaToia did not let that deter her efforts. She then entered a temporary code to allow the delivery crew access.
A few days later, I received a follow up call from Ms. LaToia informing me that she had contacted the IT department regarding my Gate Code and that the original issue had been resolved.
Ms. LaToia has truly exceeded my expectations and I am sincerely grateful. Thank you so much for your exceptional assistance.

Better have your own cart or truck, from now on (May 2024). Not sure about all Public Storage locations, but this location recently changed their policy on carts. It used to be you could reserve one in the office, and there were 5 numbered carts in addition to several other "floating" ones on the property. When I recently went, the attendant said this policy has been discontinued. That means that if you drive up, and have a massive item to move to your locker - especially if it's upstairs - you'd better have brought your own truck or cart, or hunt around for one of the few on site.
This Public Storage location is supposedly the largest in Houston. They should have many, many carts available, and having renters bring them back to a central location doesn't strike me as onerous. But now? Better hope you're very lucky if you have something heavy or awkward to move - or that it already has wheels on it. See the attached photo for more of what to expect. Don't like this? There's always Extra Space Storage...

This company cut my lock off my unit due to non payment for the month of April. The CSR at the location told me they cut the lock on April 27th since it is the end of the month and that I had not paid my rent I thought April had 30 days in it. Someone needs to teach them what is the end of the month Wednesday April 30 is the end of the month. Not April 27th. Please do not rent from these company they will always raise your rent and cut your locks so they can make more money for the lock replacement.
I been trying to get it since early this morning to building a tousled the elevators and the building doors just won’t open then I waited 2 hours for the females that work in this storage could help me out and both are just worthless I don’t know why they hired people like that after 4 hours I call and the same women was so disrespectful to give me information that she couldn’t give any info and she just hang up the phone try calling 5 more times and no answer 😡🤬

Public Storage at Gulfton has been a wonderful experience. I leased a 10x20 for four years. When I was ready to clean out my storage and down size, Miguel was a great help. He showed us a smaller unit and ensured we got the best price for our new unit. We considered completely moving out but this was a better option. Thanks Miguel for giving us other options to make this a smooth transition. I would recommend this location as its convenient as well

My storage unit was broken into. Do not leave your items here. My lock seemed untouched, but when I opened my unit after just three months of renting it, all of my things were upside down. Electronics, tv, all kitchen appliances and all other valuables were taken. The manager - Clazell, was very rude, he wouldn’t give proper contact information for his supervisor, only a phone number that went straight to voicemail. He also didn’t seem surprised that the unit was broken into. After reading other reviews here, I saw that another person’s unit was broken into a month ago. So it could have been at the same time. Another women mentioned that they work as an operation and bring a truck to open several units at once and leave. They are not allowing us to view the cameras, they simply don’t care. We believe this is an inside job. Otherwise something would have been done about the break-ins. I called Public Storage customer service and asked how I would be compensated. They said —you will not be compensated. They also are refusing to provide a refund for the months I have paid. Of course, we lost a lot of valuables and money storing here. It’s is best to go a different direction, your items are not safe here. We plan to press charges.

In short, my unit was broken into, my valuables stolen and I found out the insurance I pay for is useless because the facility refuses to file a police report. The way they handled the situation was poor and unprofessional.
The gate regularly does not work. Very disappointing how bad the security is.

I moved my move out date and even confirmed with them on the phone when they called me back, only to see that they have cancelled my unit and would charge a set up fee again if I would like to extend.
Why even bother harassing your customers over the phone if you don't act on anything that was discussed?
Cleveland and Priscilla were super nice. They took time to show us units and answer our questions to our satisfaction, which made our decision to book a breeze. Clean facility with easy yet safe access.

He informed about the available units and the rental and policy process. I came back to the facility because I was unsure on renting but Clezelle was very patient and assured me that this location is safe and monitored. I used a 5x5 unit for a year. I had no issues. It was June, so very hot out during my move-in and move-out, and the space was truly climate controlled. I had no issues with anything. It is very secure as you have to enter your access code to get in and out of the gate, building, and elevator. Staff was always kind and helpful. I saw no pests or bugs. I would recommend this location.
(I did get the Orange Door Insurance they offer because I did not have my own. As I did not have to use it, I am not sure how it is.)
Chandice is absolutely tremendous. I have leased several storage units from them over the past several years, mainly due to continuous price increases, and anytime I’ve ever had an issue or a question she is incredibly friendly and goes the extra mile to assist me. I’ve honestly stayed a customer there with them due to her.

Extremely unprofessional - made a check in reservation with timing confirmed over the phone and email. When I showed up at the appointed time, the office was locked and the property manager was absent. Really didn't seem Iike they value my time or business.
Came in today looking for cost and a for a storage and was greeted with Selena M. She was very nice and sweet during the whole process and very helpful. The store number is 24634.
I called the Public storage just to inquire about pricing and the young lady that I spoke with Jasmine @ Gulfton and Chimney Rock store was so nice and very professional. She was so professional and pleasant. Even after I informed her that I was just shopping around. Thank you for your time and patience

I have to say how wonderful a experience I had at the gulfton public storage location in houston tx.I drove all the way from atlanta and I needed assistance getting my code keyed in and the wonderful clerk there Kristah was extremely pleasant and helpful even being a “trainee”. The manager Chandice was was pleasant as well. Thanks to them I got in.
