If you're looking for a storage facility in Golden Valley, this is the one! Kelly is AWESOME; always willing to help with a cheerful attitude. I'd sway from the Winnetonka location, Michelle, the on site facility manager isn't helpful and rarely there to assist.

Rates consistently rise as is common with any large franchise, but the customer service at this location helps justify that increase.

Lisa was great. Followed through on everty detail. Very curtious. This local shop is great. I can't say the same for the larger Public Storage company. It seems the longer you rent a spot the more they punish you by raising rates every 3 to 4 months. I experienced an overall 32% increase over twelve months. You would think that a loyal renter would be rewarded, not punished. Despite the great local service, I may have to look at moving my RV in the near future, or upon the next increase.

Their facility IS ALWAYS CLEAN AND THEY ARE ALWAYS, ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL WHEN NEED BE. I WOULD CERTAINLY PICK PUBLIC STORAGE OVER ANY OTHER FACILITY AROUND FOR A NUMBER OF GOOD REASONS. We've been renting here for quite some time a little more than a year and have never had an issue with anything. The only thing I would like to see different maybe is staying open longer than 9pm but I'm only one person and I wouldn't know how other people feel about this or if it would even matter. ***The way that Public Storage, the company, treated me when I was vacating my unit was ridiculous. These 5 stars are for Kelly, the manager of this facility, who stood up for me during the process.***
I had intended to move out at the end of January, but stopped in for some cleaning the next morning, and asked if they could prorate February’s payment since I only used the unit for a few hours of that month. Given that they had been happy to prorate my initial payment when I first rented the unit, I assumed it would be no big deal. Kelly called me that morning and informed me that it was actually a big deal, as company policy required her to charge me the full payment (which had jumped from $129 to $192 in the 17 months I’d rented from them). Being a rational, caring person, she felt that that was unfair, and told me she would look into canceling the charge. Long story short, Public Storage would not let her do that, customer service told me to pay it, take it up with collections, or pay a $177 late vacate fee, and that I should have known better than to access the facility on the first. While that is true, let me point out that this is a company that owns metal boxes and parking lots that they let people put stuff in, in exchange for money; not exactly a high stakes industry. I’ve had far less trouble negotiating medical debt, speeding tickets, and insurance claims than I had with this situation. Kelly was on the same page and spent way too long working way too hard with way too many people to finally get this charge cleared. I had spent most of that week and the one before fighting a $5000 HOA assessment, and had heard some variation of “screw off, you should have known better” over and over the whole time. Obviously Kelly didn’t know that, so she also couldn’t know how much it meant to me to end that week having someone invest that much effort into battling corporate nonsense on my behalf. So if you have to put up with being ripped off and treated like a child in order to store your stuff, do it here because at least the manager really will have your back.

I want to share this experience I had with Public Storage, so others don't fall into the same trap.
I rented an RV Storage space in the Golden Valley facility. I recently vacated the space. I used the Public Storage app on 8/10/23 to schedule the move out date. I vacated the spot on 8/24/23. I scheduled 9/3/2023 as my vacate date on the app thinking I didn't want to deal with them having to credit the last few days of August. I had already paid for the month of August via auto pay. (I thought mistakenly that Public storage would prorate the rental rates.)
I received a call on 9/3/23 from Public Storage telling me that I owe rent for the entire month of September since I entered 9/3/23 for the move out date. I did receive an email earlier confirming the move out and it just communicated to pay the bill that was due. I had no detail regarding balance due after vacate date. I thought they were referencing the bill that was paid via auto pay for August.
Why did Public Storage wait until the day of the vacate to call me? I scheduled the move out on 8/10/23 24 days earlier. If I would have gotten a call even a few days prior to the vacate date I could have easily changed the date.
I explained the situation to the person who called, and she told me there was nothing she could do and that if I didn't pay the bill for September of 220.00, they would quickly send me to collections, and I could never rent at Public Storage again. She told me that they couldn't rent the space to someone else for September since I had the date set at 9/3. Interestingly I moved into the space on 3/27. (not the 1st of the month). They also had my vacate information via the app 24 days earlier.
I got the contact information for the district manager and sent him an email asking for help and of course I never got a response.
Here is what I have learned.
1/ Don't use the app to schedule your move out. Talk to a person. (However, this is difficult as there is seldom anyone in the office.)
2/ Understand the terms. Make no assumptions.
I have been a good customer to Public Storage for many years and would have expected at least be called or emailed back by the district manager.
I own a small business and value my customers. If they make mistakes, I always help them out as I want them to be happy and continue to do business with me. Apparently not the case with Public Storage.
Clean facility professional people business orientated they know what they're doing I'd recommend this facility to anybody

This place is really clean and tidy. The check in process and maintenance was great. Was helped by this amazing lady, Lisa and she really spent time to make sure I got the best possible locker based on the number of furnitures I had.
I paid for this whole month it's only the 7th of the month today and I was vacated from my storage unit without public storage's permission. I wanted to exchange my key for another key but was told I could not because "I was already vacated" (without my permission and all my concerns addressed first). Communication with them was difficult because they were not in their office when I needed to speak to them and there was no phone number provided at the indoor entrance to their office. Multiple doors nearest to my storage unit was not repaired the whole time I rented there so I had to travel far to access my unit. Bathrooms had broken down facilities as well that were never repaired during the whole time I rented too. All these broken facilities management was aware of but nothing was repaired in the whole time I had rented with them. I hope to have my concerns addressed and to update this review.

This is my second year renting a storage unit at this location and we'd highly recommend. Lisa was so helpful in walking me through the process and even followed up to see if everything was meeting our needs/expectations. We love this facility because it's reasonably priced, clean and easy to load/unload our belongings. I would highly recommend holding a unit online but completing the contract in person.

Unit is fine. But will not help when your rope breaks or all your handles o mn the door are rusted off. Be warned: they will plow all the snow in the drive up next to the units- feet high, and you will spend hours getting in/out of your unit in the winter. They also have increased rates by 47% since I began 2 years ago. Customer service is not great..

I have rented with the Golden valley Location for a few months and have has nothing but trouble. Firstly my catalytic converter was stolen in the few short weeks we were parked in this gated 'secure' lot. At least one other RV we saw also had there converter stolen. Didn't look under every vehicle because of snow. Secondly it took weeks to even get access to the space as it was not plowed. Public storage promised multiple times to have it plowed I would show up not plowed and a pile of snow too high to drive my rv into. Resulting in us going home and trying to get someone to call us back which was not fast or easy. Lots of excuses and now a very expensive repair and no confidence in their security. Think hard before renting here.

So far, I’ve had a wonderful experience! Jim made the whole process so painless and simple. Was able to get in and set up my storage unit in 15 minutes and left with all of my questions answered! The app is also a great feature where I can look at my account as well as use contactless storage!
