About Metairie

Metairie is a large, thriving Louisiana community, part of the larger Jefferson Parish. Although it's not an official city, it would be one of the largest cities in the state if it were to be incorporated. The community is the site of the training facilities for the NFL's New Orleans Saints, and many of the players have made the town their home.

Metairie stands out as one of the few cities in the United States that doesn't tax its residents. This makes it an attractive place for people who want to live near New Orleans, but want a budget-friendly, suburban setting.

The History of Metairie

Metairie, like much of Louisiana, was settled by French immigrants looking for opportunities in the New World. These early settlers started a farming community near the city's current location, leasing the land from wealthy landowners by paying their rent with produce. This common practice was called "sharecropping," which in French is "metairie," the inspiration for the community's name.
