The History of Statesboro

The land where Statesboro now sits was originally owned by George Sibbald, who donated it to Bulloch County's agricultural community in 1801. Two years later, the Georgia Legislature named the land Statesboro, but it didn't become officially incorporated until 1866. After the Civil War, the town recovered from the damages of battle and transformed into a major city of the region.
