TL;DR: This place aggressively raises prices while providing an increasingly degrading customer experience. There is no human staff to provide support or take accountability for the property. I look forward to getting my belongings safely out of here asap.
My experience:
- My rent has been more than doubled in the 2 years I've had the unit. Whatever, that's how they want to do business.
- Support for the property is unreachable. Before my recent visit, I attempted to get in contact with property management multiple times via phone (no email or online contact available). With no response, I figured I'd just speak to the staff in-person when I got to the site.
- I fly in this weekend to visit the site and prepare for a move. My access code doesn't work. The app doesn't work. There is no staff, just a kiosk with a video playing on repeat. The kiosk touchscreen to contact video support doesn't work. The property manager does not answer or respond to voicemail. After 20 minutes I eventually figure out I can summon someone in a call center by pressing the handicapped button on the kiosk. The video continues to loudly play, making it difficult to hear support as they help me get in the gate.
- While at the site I find some of my belongings have been damaged by water which has pooled in my climate controlled unit. I see a dumpster in the back corner of the property with other's items in & around it. With no staff to talk to, I throw my water damaged items with some other unneeded items into/next to the dumpster. Within 2 days I am hit with a fine which has been auto-charged to my credit card for disposal of goods. Of course, there was no option to contact someone to discuss/dispute the charge.
I've had considerably better experiences with other businesses in the area and would advise trying your luck elsewhere. This place isn't even trying to hide that they're squeezing their customers for money while providing the bare minimum they can in return.
STAY AWAY. Once they replaced the onsite staff with a robo-kiosk, this place went downhill fast. Homeless people live there now - luckily most of them nice, but still. And there was a robbery last year where criminals used an employee code to access the facility after hours. Our unit was hit, along with others. PS said their cameras didn't work. Then later came up with some footage the cops said was unusable. Overall, they didn't help the cops much. And it took 4 months to get paid from their orange door insurance.
Of course, the gate breaks once per week. And the access hours change often, without forewarning.
All this while rents rise higher than ever. STAY AWAY. If you must get storage, get something with a person onsite. Or an interior unit with a wall that goes all the way up to the ceiling (most do not) to prevent the new style of burglary that is common at these unmanned facilities.
This is conveniently located near my apartment, Publix and UPS. It's cost-effective. The staff has been responsive. I met the manager, Ro, she provided helpful staffing information because the location is not physically staffed. They have a virtual management contact system. She comes on site only intimately.
It is convenient and the recent repairs and capital improves has drastically improved the property. I like the Kiosk and the ease to contact someone at Public Storage if there is a problem. However, the climate-controlled environment we pay for is anything but that for the past 6 weeks. The temperature on the floor of our units has been 95 or higher during that time. While I have been told they will replace the AC units that have failed, I have been given no timetable for its completion. Also, the main security gate has been in a ‘open position’ during the days I went there. This after the keypad to exit the gate was inoperable with the only way to get out was to call an 800 number. So, we are paying for a secure and climate-controlled environment and at this time we have neither. On top of that, public storage raised our unit monthly rent 25%. If the problems above are not fixed I will probably move my belongings out.
Worst storage ever the acces code wouldn’t work stood outside for 2 hours just for them to tell us we wouldn’t be able to get in not to mention they gave us a already used storage and we had to pay another 20$ to get another one and the manger just stood outside watching us in there car a white Hyundai sonata this is quite literally the worst storage ever
Clean, easy to use, bluetooth entrance, carts and dollies. Great price for a gigantic unit. 5 star
Great service, she was efficient and very kind!
Ro is amazing and super helpful! The move in was a breeze because of her!
Ro was very helpful and made the issues I was having disappear. She is the best! Extremely helpful and knowledgeable!
DISGUSTING AND UNSAFE STORAGE FACILITY…
Unclean, Unsanitary, Unsafe, Broken… Public Storage, 1210 Clairmont Rd. Decatur, GA 30033
Trash everywhere, people sleeping in the units, discarded mattresses on the property, and the temperature in the “climate controlled” hallway of my building is 87 !!!! Crazy.
It is unbelievable how fast this place has fallen apart over the last year, and all because you no longer have on-site managers!
I have had storage units at this facility since 2010. They have allowed this place to completely fall apart- unsanitary and unsafe. Over the last year it just gets worse and worse.
During the last two weeks, I have had to go back and forth to my units there. There was a man sleeping/living in a unit in my building!
For two weeks there have been discarded, soiled mattresses around the driveway, trash in all the hallways (boxes, discarded furniture, bedding) and the dumpster situation looks like a slum in the worst part of New Delhi. None of this has been touched in two weeks!
Plus, I pay for climate-controlled units, and the temp in the interior hallway is 87!
The final straw for me this week was the full understanding of the stupidity in making the decision to no longer have on-site managers. They only have a kiosk for you to interact with, and it was broken. So, there was no way to get anything accomplished- no way to complain, no way to get anything fixed – no way to get anything done except by phone (and I made 12 calls and still go nowhere).
Apparently, the policy now is to have one manager cover five property locations- and that is impossible. So, it is no wonder the place has gone to hell- there is no one on the property to manage it.
Twice I tried to reach the district manager (Zack) to have him come see the property and hear my complaints. NO RESPONSE.
Oh, and the rate on my unit has TRIPLED over the last 18 months. Thanks for that- because it is unbelievable to be price gouging me when your property looks like a slum in New Delhi.
I should have moved out of your facility last year when the collapse started at this Public Storage location.
If you don't have on-site management then the facility falls apart because there is no one there to ensure safety, sanitation, and that the facility is in working order.
Terrible decision on your part to try and cut costs by getting rid of the on-site property managers.
They have raised our monthly premium twice now within 12 months!!!!
Be prepared for the bait-and-switch. We signed up at a reasonable rate, but it keeps getting jacked up. I guess they figure we can’t move to another provider, or it’s too inconvenient and we will just keep paying.
It’s time to cancel and move on.
U pay almost 200$ for homeless people to sleep in the empty storage units to rome around at night the doors dont work homeless cut cables its been like this for months nobody pays attention to the cameras i guess . There dumpster has always been trashed up like crazy trashed its crazy what this storage unit has become . So glad i got out on time and dont have to worry when my storage unit was gonna get broken in to. They have terrible management bc if they had management thats good it wouldnt be like this .
After all it's a good option to store your staff. Takes some time to resolve your issues, but other than that - convenient location, reasonable quality app. The units are still smaller than they should be, but I'm OK with that after getting the unit I wanted.
Gate has been open for a week, making this Public Storage location not secure. If the gate was working, this would be a wonderful facility.
I’ve called and spoken to managers two times who promised to fix the gate. Nothing has happened. I will be canceling my membership and moving my items elsewhere immediately. It’s not safe.
The first time (2020) I rented a climate-controlled unit from this Public Storage location in Decatur, my experience was "okay." The light in the unit didn't work, but at least I got a real local person on the phone who returned my calls. This second experience (2023) was not good at all. There is no longer a manager at the location, and phone calls are not returned. Even worse, the first inside, climate-controlled unit I was assigned had water on the floor, so I was assigned another unit. When I checked on that unit today, my file cabinets were standing in a puddle of water, and a small puddle had formed on one of my very nice wooden bookcases. (This unit was located deep in the building.)The historical documents I had stored in file boxes were okay, but one or two of the boxes had received drops of water. Also, the front office building (which, as far as I know, doesn't generally have office staff anymore), was covered in blue tarp as if it had received some kind of damage. I don't recommend this storage facility as it is currently managed.
Addition: I added two more photos I took after removing my stuff. The file cabinets were sitting in water long enough to begin rusting. Water also seemed to be seeping under some of the walls, which caused me to wonder if adjacent units also had water in them. Manager never returned my phone calls.
This property Manager is so horrible . If you get a lock out on your storage unit expect this property Manager not even to do there job and unlock it after you have paid your balance . Weeks went by and the property manager still have not came to unlock my unit . They take the money very fast but when it's time to assist you no one can be found . You will never ever get to speak with the property manager because they never answer the phone . It's horrible . People are even sleeping in the storages it's a lot of homeless people in this area that abuse drugs near my storage unit which is unacceptable
Omg!! This says climate controlled. It is not.
Also, we had our last load going in elevator (and apparently they "Close at 9 exactly) and we could not go to our floor to lock our things which were still in the hallway! 🥵😡
Customer service sucks and there were NO announcements.
This also appears to be a FIRE violations code as there were no stairs available to go upstairs.
What happens if you were upstairs?
Also, there was no open bathoom.
If you are moving, sweating, drinking water, it is likely you will have to pee.
I hope no one saw me behind the building.
The third floor also has puddles inside.
This place is a big fat ZERO.
It’s very easy to book and move in, however, the prices were severely gouged when summer approached so I had to pay much more than I planned to. Bring your own lock or you have to pay 20$ for theirs and book it a couple months before you need it in the summer. It’ll cost you less in the long run.
Sparkle answer all question I had asked she was very kind and generous with no attitude unlike the other one so when you go up there, ask for Sparkle thank you girl
