The History of North Palm Beach

In 1954, John D. MacArthur bought more than 2,500 acres of land in Palm Beach County, part of which included the area where North Palm Beach is now located. Much of the area was made up of mangrove swamps and farm-land, but MacArthur set about creating his vision of a cozy Florida village.

North Palm Beach was incorporated in 1956, while it was still a fledgling development under construction. Extensive dredging of the area's swamps enabled the construction of several residential communities, as well as a connection between the Old Dixie Highway and US 1. Over the next few decades, the community gained a shopping mall, a movie theater and a golf course. North Palm Beach has a relatively short history due to its young age. However, since its early beginnings, it has quickly evolved into a popular place to live for families, retirees and professionals alike.
