Milton is relatively young, having reached cityhood only in 2006. It has a large geographical footprint of nearly 40 square miles, but a fairly small population and a definitively rural setting. In 2011, the city was recognized as having the highest quality of living in the entire state of Georgia, attributed to its numerous parks and recreation facilities, golf courses, trails and restaurants.

As a Milton resident, you'll find that the city provides a wide range of amenities. Everyday conveniences like grocery stores are spread throughout the community, easily accessible from most residential areas. Milton also hosts a number of big box retailers and well-known chain restaurants, balanced by small, locally-owned shops and cafes.

Milton's parks and recreation department manages a number of public parks throughout the city, as well as recreational facilities. Park amenities include children's playgrounds, scenic green space, lakes, athletic fields and picnic areas. The Milton City Pool is a popular summertime destination, and youth and adult sports are offered year-round.

The city plans many special events throughout the year, ranging from big holiday celebrations to community volunteer events. These events provide plenty of opportunities to meet your neighbors and get to know your community, and include the Crabapple Fest, the Milton Hometown Jubilee and Jog for a Cause.

Another unique feature of Milton is its Citizens Government Academy. The city provides residents with the opportunity to take a free, eight-week course that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the local government and its operations. If you decide to sign up, you'll also be able to meet several government officials in person and attend many hands-on seminars and educational lectures.

Fulton County Schools oversees the public schools of Milton, including elementary, middle and high schools. Alternatively, you can enroll your child in one of the private schools in Milton.

• Utilities: Fulton County Sewer and Water and Sawnee EMC are the major utilities providers in the area.
• Garbage and Recycling: The city doesn't provide trash or recycling collection, so it's up to you to choose a private company. All companies in the city are required to offer free recycling collection along with their trash collection services.
• Transportation: Although Milton is just outside the transit network, you can easily access the nearest stop at the Windward Parkway Park and Ride parking lot in Alpharetta.

Milton Housing

Homes in Milton can be very expensive, considerably higher than the national and state averages. Renting is a slightly more affordable option, but you're more likely to find properties for sale, than for rent. It's not uncommon to see homes listed for more than a million dollars, although options are far more budget-friendly.
