About Chatsworth

Chatsworth is a part of Greater Los Angeles in the northwestern San Fernando Valley. Though it covers just over 10 square miles, it's home to a growing and diverse population. It offers numerous entertainment, dining and outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike. Because downtown Los Angeles is just a short drive away, you have easy access to plenty of big-city amenities as well.

The History of Chatsworth

Originally inhabited by the Fernandeno and Chumash Native American tribes, the area that's now Chatsworth was settled by Europeans in 1797. Spanish settlers established the San Fernando Mission, and a large number of missionaries traveled through the area on an old Native American trail.

In the 1800s, the town became a active relay station for stagecoaches and was a busy transportation hub for quite some time. In 1888, a man named George R. Crow filed documents for a subdivision he named Chatsworth Park, givingthe community the beginnings of its official name. The first railroad to Chatsworth came in 1893 and made the town one of the busiest areas of the valley.
