I have been a customer of the Public Storage on Mercator Drive in Reston since June 2024 with Terry as the Resident Manager. I rented a 15x20 unit initially for several months and currently rent a 15x10 unit. Terry has always been very professional in his dealings with me and has been helpful setting up my initial account; closing the first account, re-opening the 2nd account, etc. The building, individual storage units, parking lot and area surrounding the building has always been clean and I have seen Terry around the area frequently sweeping the area to keep it that way. The 3 garage doors for loading & unloading have always worked well and the pedestrian door w/coded entry has always worked fine. There is also a restroom in the building for clients which came in handy over the summer as we were drinking a lot of water during the move. The building has 2 elevators – not OTIS brand – and until July 2024 they both worked fine & were easy to operate with your personal code. Since July however, one elevator has been out of service, waiting on a replacement part. My move out of the initial 15x20 in August 2024 unit was not really affected time-wise by this inconvenience probably having more to do with the efficiency of my moving company, Express Moving & Storage of Alexandria, than anything else but if there are multiple clients moving in or out, it can be a real nuisance. This is not something that Terry has a lot of control over as the repair comes out of Corporate; nevertheless, it is the one reason I’ve given 4 stars in my rating in lieu of 5.
Really easy and friendly staff. They don’t bother you, I love being able to just come in and move my stuff around if need be. Staff is super friendly and the environment is great, very clean and everything needs your access code so I know my stuff is safe here.

Rented a unit here for a month and the process could not have been easier. Everything is done online. The facility is clean and well maintained. Super easy moving my things in and out. Shout out to Terry for always answering any question and being very helpful!
The rep at the Herndon, VA location was extremely helpful in getting everything sorted for us.
Unfortunately, this location has earned a 1 star rating because 1 of the 2 elevators has been out of order. This has made moving and storing horrendous. I spoke with the manager and he said that the elevator is damaged and that the repairs may take years to fix. Moving on the weekend now is insane having to share 1 elevator with so many people, moving takes forever up and down with only 1 person and their stuff to share 1 working elevator.
Fix the elevator and I will change the review.
Additionally, the manager lied about rates, saying that rates posted online never go down. That was false. Rates are increased over the weekend and then lower during the week. So that was a lie.
Terry is great property manager for reston. He is helpful, and does what he can to help you out.
The Reston Public Storage location provides consistently clean storage facilities and excellent customer service. I'm a repeat customer and my family relies on this facility to bridge the summer gap between semesters for my college age kids. Terry is always so helpful and pleasant to work with! Highly recommend for both short-term and long-term storage needs!

This facility is REFUSING to refund overpayment because the District Manager doesn't know how money works!!!!! The people who ran it when it was EZ Storage for the first 6 years I had my unit were far more competent!

Update 28 March: I just received a notice that they are raising the price again. That is over $100 per month more than when I signed up 9 months ago. They are now charging $269/Month for a 10 x 10 space, that was originally $155 less than a year ago. Stay away from this business, they are gouging customers.
If I could give less stars I would. I would caution anyone from using this business or location. They bait you in at a price and raise it 25% or more within six months. Then they are completely rude when you ask about it...buyer beware.
I've had a storage unit at this facility for almost a year now, and just wanted to post to say that the property managers are so patient and helpful!! The property is also well-kept and always spotless! Will stay a Public Storage customer for as long as I require a storage unit!!
If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Rented a unit (10×20) on floor 1. When we began to move into it, we noticed water running down the back wall. We showed the manager and asked to be moved to a different unit of the same size. I already paid the deposit and move in fees. They wanted another $100 to change the unit even though the water was a "maintenance" issue! If you have a unit on the first floor against an outside wall, I would suggest checking to see if any of your items have water damage. DO NOT rent a unit from this place.

We have had a storage unit at this site for over three years and e we have had a great experience. The facility is consistently clean, free of pests, and temperature controlled. We have neither seen nor smelled any dampness, and our unit on the 7th floor has no mold or musty smell, so our furniture is great shape. Terry the Property Manager runs a tight ship, and we are comfortable that everything is secure, safe and clean. Job well done.

Needed to rent two units for a last minute move, one large for furniture and a smaller one for boxes. Terry was super friendly and explained all my options. Then he showed me two units in the sizes I wanted and as luck would have it they were near each other. I asked if I could get those two specifically which he said yes but I would have to reserve them a certain way online.
Of course I totally messed up the reservation and accidentally paid for two different units. Frantic I called Terry and he said no problem just come in the next day and we could get it sorted out. Next day I came in and met the lovely and charming Ema. I explained the situation to her and after exhibiting some amazing patience she was able to get me switched to the two units I originally wanted without me getting charged extra or losing the online move in special.
I could not be happier with the help I got from Terry and Ema, they are both very friendly and super accommodating. The facility itself is also great. It's well lit on the lower floors, the areas are very clean and it's all climate controlled which is exactly what I need.
This is a fantastic location! The property manager, Terry, works very hard to keep the property clean, is quite knowledgeable, and friendly! I highly recommend storing your belongings here!

The two gentlemen that assisted me with my units were not only kind enough to take the time to make a good decision on unit sizes, but also cost-effective for me.
I started renting a space a few months ago at the Public Storage in Reston at Mercatur Drive, from a property manager named Andres.
Andres was very helpful in filling me in on the fine details of the contract with this company.
And as well, Andres was very informative when he showed me multiple spaces ranging in different sizes inside of this large climate controlled building.
Andres and his fellow property managers keep this place really clean. I've rented space from Public Storage in Northern VA., before and this is by far one of the cleanest ones !
I highly recommend this property for space rentals and highly recommend Andres and his clear and polite orientation to customers of this Storage property.

Everything with my rental has been so easy and stress free. The online portal was simple and when I got to the building there was plenty of space to pull up to and park, they have lots of carts for you to use, and the unit was easy to find. Would definitely use again if needed.

Public Storage understands how things can go wrong when you're moving. You can plan every aspect of your move but if the entrance to your unit has has a six to eight inch ledge it multiplies the time it takes to move by a lot. You can work around it but you have to plan ahead. That's why I use the Mercator Drive facility. Roll right in to the elevator and up to the door of your unit, still so easy to get my gear in and out.

BEWARE: They trick you into insurance for the first 30 days free, then it's $15 a month, even when you deny the coverage up front. You have to cancel within that 30 days in order not to get charged for it on your first bill. Then once they do, they "cannot" refund you. They also won't cancel over the phone in hopes you won't mess with the online portal. Shady business practices if you ask me. It's a shame because the place is cleanly kept and the staff is nice.
Update: 4 months later they hike up the rent.

I've held storage units at a variety of companies in my life and dealt with numerous representative. Without a doubt Terry at Public Storage in Reston Va at 2055 Mercator Dr. is the best storage facility representative I've ever met. I consider myself a technically savvy senior but am apprehensive with online business transactions. Terry's kind patience and clear assistance enabled me to obtain my new unit, complete required documents, and understand each step of the process. Public Storage in Reston Va is a high quality business and Terry's exceptional customer care defines how it should be operated.
We have used several storage spaces at this facility over three years. It is clean and easily accessible. Terry has been very helpful and takes good care of the place. Only negative is price rises a bit too frequently…

EDIT: After temporarily reducing my $140 bill by $5 a month after my 1 star review, they eventually raised the originally $70 5x10 unit from ~$135 to $180 a month as of today. Usually I don't go that far out of my way to caution against brands but this is by far some of the shadiest stuff I've seen. One could make an argument around small claims court at this rate with how this has gone since we're really stretching the limits of reasonable rate increases here....

Buyer beware! Shady long term business practices + review inflation.
I've used this storage unit for years, back when it was small time and owned by a different company. When Public Storage took over, they sent me a new contract for ~$140 for just a 5x10 unit. However, the same units today are being advertised for roughly $70 a month online, just about half the price!
I got a cold call to my personal phone a short while into the account being new asking a filter question or two, then asking me to leave a review if I liked the service. This is one way companies get "legitimate" positive reviews for their service. The trick is oftentimes that you ask customers after the glowing white glove initial period, and not several years into the process.
So, buyer beware! Lots of storage facilities do this, so these guys are not alone with this. If you've been caught by this as well, I'd encourage you to leave a review documenting your experiences as well.

Visited the Reston VA Mercator Dr. Location on Saturday Feb. 5th. Michael at the front desk was kind and patient with me. I was trying to get my lock out of some very challenging packaging. Michael went above and beyond. He came to the rescue! The Reston VA Mercator Drive location is superb. It is clean and so convenient.
