About Annandale

Annandale is a large Virginia suburb, considered a part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. It offers a scenic, comfortable setting less than 13 miles from D.C. and is a popular home base for families as well as professionals who work in the city.

The History of Annandale

Like many areas on the East Coast, Annandale has an interesting and storied past. Its history dates back to 1685, when it served as a family plantation known as Ravensworth. The plantation stayed in the family for several generations, and was gradually sold off in small pieces after it was no longer in use. Small family farmers became the residents of the new Annandale community, finding success in a farming technique called crop rotation. From there, the area flourished, growing into the thriving suburb it is today.
