Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 280 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR

Do NOT rent space here. Unsafe units, and extremely poor customer service. The interior unit walls are constructed with plywood - easy for people to break through, which is what happened to me on sometime at the end of February, resulting in about $6800 worth of belongings stolen. It was apparently discovered March 1 by the property manager, who then placed a new padlock on my unit, and did not notify me at that time. A covering property manager notified me the next day, by leaving a very non-urgent voicemail "in regards to my storage unit". I had not received the call, but fortunately had been going to the unit that same day when I discovered the padlock had been placed. Unfortunately, I learned it was due to theft of my unit, and to about 4-5 other units surrounding me. I was then left to call the police myself, as the police had not been called by any property manager when they discovered the burglary. Following this distressing situation, I was never: 1. Offered a new unit after the incident (although very little belongings remained, mostly all empty boxes or laundry baskets). 2. Never called by the actual property manager to speak about the incident, never offered an apology, etc... despite calling a few times to get information / ask questions about next steps, what happened, etc. 3. Never offered to have the unit walls fixed!!!! The walls were literally broken down/opened, and the covering property manager said "you'll have to follow up with the regular property manager this week about fixing the walls" ..... Another renter went to Home Depot to get screws/nails/etc. and his own power tools that day to fix the unit walls from being accessible to others. 4. The door codes were never changed after this incident, despite me and other renters asking, because apparently "they don't have access, their gate codes were taken away" .... In the days following the incident, I called the property multiple times to get information from someone, anyone.... I only received one call back, from yet another "covering" property manager. When I asked to get last names of the property manager or any of the covering property managers, so that I could know who I was speaking too and maybe reference them in later conversation, I was told "I'm not able to give out that information" ..... ??? And GOOD LUCK getting ANYWHERE with their automated phone line - there's no options for or direct way to call customer service, higher ups, etc etc. You. have to go through sales to just to speak to a human, and then ask to be transferred. The phone system is a nightmare in itself. When I called later in the month to inquire about a refund for just the month of March, due to having practically NOTHING in my storage unit, I was met with uncooperative and hostile employees who stated "refunds are not available, because you still occupied the space" .... Overall, this situation has been a nightmare. This company and its employees clearly do not care about you or your belongings. They clearly just want your money. Please safe yourself the headache, the trouble, and your money. Rent ELSEWHERE.

Don't trust your keepsakes here! My unit was one of 5 to be broken into!! I had an indoor unit thinking it would be safer. I was very wrong! The walls are thin plywood stapled together. People were able to bust through the walls and my husband had to spend time and money patching up the hole for us and other tenants. Money doesn't replace everything. Considering the rent price our belongings should be safe. The management wouldn't even face us. They hid the entire time. The general manager called me the following Monday and was only concerned about the fact I gave a 1 star review AND ASKED ME TO CHANGE IT. They haven't even paid us back for the materials we had to buy to patch up the holes for not only our unit but others units as well! DO NOT TRUST PUBLIC STORAGE WITH ANYTHING YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE!!!

EDIT:Turned out there was a miscommunication with the staff and the staff member who told us that we could drill the lock hadn’t informed the staff member on duty. I am updating my initial review to four stars because they did end up allowing us to drill our lock. This was a frustrating experience but it was not the fault of the employees. Literally having the worst experience with this place. I rented a storage unit for my retail business and I have had it for less than a month. I went to pick up some items to ship last Friday and someone had attempted to break into my storage unit and broken their key off in the lock. Due to the nature of my work it is very important that I ship orders on time. Turns out that they have no way to get into a storage unit when something like this happens. The gal working said that they need to call their locksmith but she was unable to give me any idea of a timeline on how long it would take. I asked her if I could hire someone to come do it and she said yes, as long as someone was there to supervise the drilling of the lock, so I found someone who could do it and we went during the hours that she provided to me and nobody was there. I called them again today (Sunday) and now they are saying that I actually can’t hire my own person but they need authorization paperwork before they can have their person come out. WHY IN THE WORLD DID THEY NOT HAVE US FILL OUT THE AUTHORIZATION PAPERWORK ON FRIDAY?! They are still refusing to give a timeline. I’m beyond frustrated and 100% regretting moving my inventory over there because as it stands it’s completely useless to me. I can’t even give my buyers an estimated shipping date because they won’t give me any idea of when I might be able to access my unit. They have offered no sort of refund or compensation for the losses. As of now I’m paying $100/month for a storage unit that I have NO IDEA when I will be able to access. I obviously do not recommend this place.

Moved to salem in September of 23 we found this location and the price was a great price at 135. After 7 months they increased the price to 175 which felt unfair considering that wasent the agreement we made but oh well. But then my ex lost her job fell behind a month and I took over payments paying 200 for the late fee becuase I'm on ssi for disability but paid 6 months of that...my ex tried to make a payment plan since it was in her name but were unwilling to do anything to help and since we were behind a month already could get our stuff out which had my father's inheritance belongings my ex grandmother's belongings things that can't be replaced and auctioned it off for 250 bucks. If your looking for a storage that keeps to it's price and is willing to help you out when in time of struggling this is not the place to go. Had we known they would change pricing for a leaking storage and had no family values we never would have gone with them. Very unhappy.

Make sure you take your lock when you move out to avoid extra charges. I forgot and ended up with a full month's bill afterwards. I noticed a few days later, but that wasn't their fault. They left me a voicemail that I missed the day after move out, and the district manager, Jen, reached out to me later and took care of the bill for me. I was extremely impressed with how they handled the situation, and I will definitely store here again in the future. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they seem to really care about their customers' experiences. Thanks guys!

Had a storage unit with them for 6 months, haven’t visited them in months to come and find my unit completely empty on my most recent visit. Lock not cut whatsoever, no notices of them entering it as I’ve had my storage rent deducted every single month as well as paying for the extra insurance. Was told they investigated but they don’t review cameras during investigation but wouldn’t disclose what kind of investigation is taken as it’s a private matter. I would not recommend this place ever, denied insurance claim and all of my belongings gone. Wouldn’t give them a star but that’s not an option.

Storage center keeps increasing prices and doesn’t allow an option to lock in prices, and basically told me I’ll never know my rate until billed… this doesn’t seem very customer friendly especially when I need to figure out what I can and can’t afford every month as my price is just a very big mystery even to them…

The manager had great customer service compared to other storage places I have visited, very friendly, and I would recommend giving this place a visit if you’re looking for a storage unit to keep your belongings safe.

STORAGE WAS BROKEN INTO AND STOLEN FROM! Lady that runs and lives in the front office and cleans up the grounds of the storage unit will go through your storage unit and steal your stuff and blame it on “the painters that painted the doors had to cut the lock”… odd isn’t that? being the girl was literally wearing the shoes and shirt that she stole from my storage as if she didn’t expect me to come in. when I notified her that I knew it was her due to her wearing the items she stole, she choked on her words and said I could do an insurance claim and didn’t know what to say to me. Didn’t need any more proof as she was wearing my clothes but when I asked for camera footage, since they’re always recording there, she said she couldn’t show me it. hmmm… half of my items gone from my storage, things missing that I’ll never get back or be able to replace. I haven’t seen her in the office for a little. hope she was fired. Don’t use this storage!! Please! look elsewhere. The prices will raise and your stuff will be stolen by office workers and management!!!

When I went in to see about storage prices and sizes I was automatically greeted by Stephanie who was very polite kind and helpful she helped me find the right size storage for my stuff ( I asked a lot of questions an never once senced any frustrations in her tone or demeanor which was nice)

So far we have 2 units. One has no light bulb and the other has a bulb on a questionable wiring harness dangling on 1 single ceiling screw. Gate code needed to even leave. Prices vary from online to phone, etc. However, it's only been a week so I'll update the review.

Went here to meet someone to purchase something off Facebook marketplace... There was a line of traffic to get in no less than four cars this must be a pretty popular place.

The care that this storage facility has for its customers is unmatched. I highly recommend to anyone needing short or long term storage.

Price was alright, little did I know after 6 months the price goes up like 60$ I'm paying almost 300$ for a 10x20 unit and the unit has a ceiling that has water damage and is starting to drip down not to mention there is a huge gap in between my unit and the one behind/beside me I can constantly see the lights they have on in there shining in my unit. The location is great and the security is pretty good. I do wish I could have a different lock on my unit though like a master lock instead of the cylinder lock.. overall I'm giving this place a 3★ because the hidden price and the freedom of having a personalized lock. Although the App they have is great for entering/exiting the property just one click on your phone. And one click payments or auto pay is very nice. But again no incentives like rewards programs or discounts on auto payments ... Place could definitely use an overhaul to bring things a little more up-to-date.

We are currently staying in a no admirable mobile home. And on the top of being completely agitated by our situation we have been harassed by the majority of company's we have dealt with. Including the public storage. One of the rules and regulations is the clean and maintain your storage unit in which we have to spend time doing. Organizing our whole house into a tiny storage room. We have been harassed by the lady in the office on numerous occasions the first interaction I was told to keep my trash out of the way. I realize it may seem like trash to her but they were in fact school papers my kids made and I was not done cleaning. Today I have been here for no more than an hour and a half and here she comes again to inform me that I have a time limit of 3 hour which I had exceeded. Looking up the rules and regulations there is nothing that states there's a 3 hour limit. This place is a complete joke. And if I am approached again with bogus discrimination I am filing a lawsuit because that's all it is. Is complete discrimination. its sickening.!

No one answers the phone, can't get them to call back. Go into the office it's always closed even though website says they're open. HORRIBLE

My fiancé and I had to scramble to find a storage unit when losing our apartment, we thought public storage would be a good place to leave our belongings and they offered a good move in deal for the amount of money we had at the time so we took it. Fast forward three months and we got a new place, they charge a whole month ($228 for us) even if your belongings are only there a week. (And yes we have a 30 day notice) We got locked out and were forced to pay the $228 in order to get any of our belongings back. Once I received some of my items I immediately noticed the stench of mildew, my mattress was damp, my couch and my bed frame had mold on them, multiple items were covered in moisture and I had to throw away multiple bags of clothes because they were COVERED in mold. I highly recommend looking elsewhere.

I used to like public storage, but now I can't say that anymore. When I first began renting here I was paying approx. $125 per month for a 10'x20' storage unit. The place has locked gates, and security cameras one of which is very close to the unit I am renting. I felt like it was a good deal for the space and the security. Around 6 months or so into renting here the price went up. It was more like $175 per month now. Much less of a deal than before, but still not too unreasonable. Now however, they've raised the price again and it's over $200 per month. That's now more than $1 per sq ft. Just for storage. It's ridiculous. Add onto that, you can't even access your items between 9 pm and 6 am. During the summer it is still light at 9 pm and it would be nice to be able to come home late from a kayaking trip and drop them off at storage but unfortunately I'm restricted with the 9pm limit. Time to find a new storage facility

Kinda pricey but very kind and seemingly happy staff

I have nothing but problems with this business. They don't seem to be intelligent enough to update the info I gave months ago and now they are bleeding me dry for money I don't owe. I want my stuff out of there but have no way of getting it moved. This place is a nightmare and I would NEVER RECOMMEND THEM. EVER!!! ZERO STARS FROM ME. They made me put a star but I don't stand behind it in anyway. I hope their business folds.

The website lies about discounts and they don't answer there phones probably the worst storage place Ive come across. I'd recommend you take your business literally anywhere else they are highly unreliable!
