Worthington is a small, family-friendly suburb in Ohio’s Franklin County. Together with the city of Riverlea, it forms an enclave of Columbus, meaning that the two smaller cities are completely surrounded by the larger. The History of Worthington

The earliest version of Worthington was established by the Scioto Co. in the early 1800s. In honor of an Ohio senator, the name Worthington was chosen, and the company members worked together to fund a library. Six settler families arrived not long after, dividing the community into lots for purchase.

Over the next several decades, the town gained a tavern, a school and several homes. Worthington quickly flourished, and incorporated as a village in 1835. In the early 1890s, the electric street railway connected Worthington to Columbus, spurring Worthington’s suburban development. After World War II, like many American suburbs, the community experienced major population booms, growing geographically as well, through annexation.
