Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 3871 Guess Rd, Durham, NC

1/23/23**It would be fair for me to post an update to my original review** After ALL the below chaos, Public Storage finally got some people on site!! They were very courteous and helpful and performed a great recovery effort from the initial interaction. Thank you. 😊 I'm now satisfied!! This is the absolute worst place to rent a storage unit AND IT'S NEW!!!! It started off great, came to the facility, looked at a unit, changed to a unit more accommodating and told him I would return if I needed to adjust move in. Showed up 1/18 @ 200 sat there 30 minutes. Called multiple people to find out where this person was because according to them, someone should have been here. Call escalated, she called District Manager twice, they didn't answer! Had to change my reservation to next morning 930am(today). I'm here, where is the staff member? It's now 10:17!!! Made more calls. This lady says, this facility is by appointment only..it's not on the door signage or a voice-mail so who did you advertise that to??? Lady says, I'll call AROUND to the other facilities and see if someone can come assist you. She called ONE PLACE to a person who just got back from a leave and was working BY HERSELF and had her call me to tell me this, and to also state the person was in the emergency room!! SINCE YESTERDAY?? No sign on the door to let people know what the hell is going on. And you're taking up MY TIME and wow I don't think I'll be giving you my money. Disrespectful of people and their time. These people are giving you their business! Show some respect!

Great customer service from Parbee! Acknowledged the problem and immediately made compensation and promised to address the issue internally.

Sherita was a great help. Very efficient and knowledgeable. The facility is well kept. Please come here for your storage needs.

Clean property and staff is very helpful

Ms.Leslie at this location has been phenomenal every time I have come in, she always has a warm welcome when I arrive, helps with any questions I have, and is overall one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever met.

The tall guy was really nice and pleasant! I used it for 2 weeks and there were no issues. Clean well lit!

This is a new storage unit. Overall, I like the facilities. I am concerned about my safety when I access my storage unit because the door to the storage building is not able to close. The door is getting progressively worse. I would appreciate it if management can get it fixed. Thank you.

I’m not to big on doing reviews but not doing one would not be fair to the manager Daniel at this public storage. I’ve had two units for over a year and I’ve always had pleasant exchanges with Daniel from my move in day until today. Last week Daniel literally saved me from losing a few things of mine that were irreplaceable. I had been organizing my unit and got a phone call and did not realize it but in my haste I left two boxes that contained family photos and antiques sitting outside my unit and I locked up and drove away without putting them up. Daniel not only recognized the items As being mine but also called me to let me know the situation and stayed 30 minutes late so i could retrieve them from him. He has consistently given me great customer service but the latest exchange By far was the most amazing display of customer I have ever experienced. He should be commended for his hard work and customer service excellence. So don’t be afraid to come and spend your money at this public storage they will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy and have a worry free experience….thank you Daniel I can’t tell you how appreciated you are. I’m very happy to patron this establishment!

Communication was good before move in, I received a call from them to ensure everything was good. They told me if I didn’t need the lock that they have you prepay for, I could just let them know and get a refund. On the day I actually moved in, no one was in the office even though it said they closed at 6pm. Having never rented a storage unit, I thought you had to go get the lock in the front office. I left two calls for the manager who has yet to return my call. I went to go buy a lock at Walmart and when I went to move in, saw the prepaid lock was left inside the storage unit. The person in the office said he couldn’t return it due to the length of time from when I signed the contract and moved in. He was very nice and said he would leave a message for manager. I left the lock with him. No one called back and when I call it says to leave a message. I have not been able to get he refund. Also, the door to building 6 is broken. It does not seem as secure as building 5 which is where the office is.

DEFINITELY RECONSIDER !! Do not lease from anyone that randomly goes up on there lease without notice. I haven’t been in my unit a year and already they are increasing my lease by $40.00. After speaking with management, they informed me the lease increase go up every 6 months. Unfortunately, I’m not even able to be accessible to my unit due to my overseas deployment. Why ask for all of my command information and military status if you’re not going to be supportive. If you can’t support the troops, I can’t support the business.

Excellent customer service from Dale and Daniel. They were both very knowledgeable and helpful. It was my first time renting a storage. They took the time to show me the different sizes to ensure I made the best decision. The storage was very clean. I certainly would recommend Public Storage and make sure to ask for Dale or Daniel.

We recently relocated to Durham and chose Public Storage solely on location. BUT it has been topped off with wonderful customer service!!!

Definitely the right place to go to. I thought it would be a little more confusing getting all of my stuff situated into a place, but the lady, Shannon, helped out tremendously. She was very friendly. If you go there, make sure to ask for her to assist you.

Called quoting prices, and was unsure of where to start, Shannon helped out tremendously. Giving prices and details of the units and was very professional. She made suggestions based upon my need. Would highly recommend contacting Shannon if you need a unit.

Clean and easy to access. However, my rate is going up 32% after my first six months. I feel screwed. I thought I had a rental agreement for a year, but nope, the rental contract says they can change your rent at any time with 30 days' notice.

Shannon the property manager went over and above to do her job! She is patient, kind, and such a servant! Thank you for hiring her :) I encourage ones to rent here!

I had such a great experience with Danita. She let me know what deals I could use to save money. She was quick on her feet & Willing to work with me with a smile on her face. Danita got me the storage unit in under 30 minutes. Danita works efficiently & I really appreciate it! Thank you Danita

Terrible. Rate goes up every 6 months or less...it's now 10 months and it has ALREADY gone up 50%!

1st time using public storage. Danita was amazing. She also gave us insight on how beneficial the moisture absorber will be for our belongings! We look forward to further utilizing Public storage!

Public Storage website and Google both indicate the "property is open" until 9pm. The outgoing message when you call does not provide hours that the location is staffed. Needed to visit the location in person and arrived only to find the office locked for the day, which was incredibly frustrating. Office hours are also not posted on the storefront. Please correct your hours online and onsite so folks don't make needless trips.

Local property management made it super easy to transfer units on short notice, but the call center sales rep left out no shortage of additional fees when we were getting started.

During our recent encounter to view a unit, the interaction was below average due to the agent’s poor customer service. It was a weird situation due to the agent initially behaving as though they didn’t want to assist - which is nonsensical. My first inclination afterward was to go to another location, but we chose to rent in spite of the experience (mainly because of the necessity and to save time that day). I can’t wholehearted recommend that others do the same.

Sherita was a great help. She helped me with my payment as well as got me signed up with the app. The property is well kept and I have enjoyed being a customer.

Currently sitting outside the parking lot after 4 calls to customer service. Was told that a district manager would be calling back shortly and that was about 10m ago. Two other cars are here, apparently on hold as well. Calling again and again and constantly transferred to customer service who does not pick up and leaves me on hold repeatedly. This is absolutely ridiculous that a beautiful Saturday in May that is perfect for accessing one's self storage has no one onsite at noon. What a joke.

New to Durham and yes southern hospitality at its finest. Sherita and Daniel are friendly, knowledgeable and I enjoyed the interaction with them.

I would recommend renting from this public storage. The store employee Daniel was very helpful and patient with me when I asked a bunch of questions. The units are nice and clean.

Do not rent from this facility. Their staff are thoughtless and incompetent. When I received an alert about an issue with my unit, not only was it impossible to speak to anyone who could assist me for over 12 hours, when I finally did speak to someone, they wasted my time and did not make rectifying their own mistake a priority. If you do rent here - be sure to check and double check any info they give you. They will surely have made some transcription errors due to their incompetence.

Cannot recommend. No one in office during posted hours. No one present during scheduled appointment. Longer review - Ghost town here when I visited during business hours. As other reviewers have mentioned, the place doesn't seem staffed. Customer service agent said appointments were required because "otherwise it would be too busy and the customer would be waiting too long." So when did they have appointments? Anytime starting at 9:30 am, because it isn't actually busy. Why the whole rigmarole? Well, they required I give them personal info and sales info. Maybe customers are less likely to shop competitors after a soft reservation over the phone? Maybe they don't want to pay anyone to come in unless there are set appointments. The "we are too busy" line seems... Unlikely. I scheduled an appointment. Now back the next day. Of course no one showed up. I called customer service - they couldn't tell me where the owners were, assured me I could rent sight unseen and they would send me access to it over email. No apologies for absentee owners that missed the appt.

I don't care for the staff. I took my stuff out in the middle of the month they still charged for the full month and charged an extra 15$late fee and wouldn't refund me. Bring your own lock there's is 25$. I tried to call the 800 number but couldn't get through. I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION!

Great experience with customer service. Daniel and Kim were unbelievably helpful, they made the whole experience much easier. They are great examples of who you want facing your customers. We had a few run arounds from other storage units in the area, and did not feel that at all here. Upfront, helpful, and answered all of our questions without feeling like we were being taken advantage of. Thanks again!

New facility so it looks nice. I had storage area outside so it was like any other storage facility. It has a slide lock so they have to provide a lock when you move in.

Facility was clean and the unit was a great size for our needs. The staff was very helpful.
