Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 1003 E NC Hwy 54, Durham, NC

Easy process of setting up and getting our "stuff" to the new storage space. Great experience, did it all online.

This location does not have staff answering phones during office hours. Nor are there staff on sight. I came midday on a weekday. No one here, doors locked, lights off, and no local contact info — just info for National customer service. The positive is that the area is well-maintained and is pretty easy to get in and out of.

Mareshah was very nice and helpful. I stopped her in the store and she was kind of enough to help me while grocery shopping. Thank you for the great customer service

I was moving from Florida to Durham, NC over the weekend and I needed a storage. I called the store ahead of time and spoke to Patrice; she was very nice and knowledgeable because when I got there all the informations she provided to me was right on the money. Thank you Patrice for your outstanding customer service!

Beware! I've been using this Public Storage location for a couple of months as we move locally, it had been fine up until the last couple of weeks. The gate has been broken on and off for two weeks now, this is important since when the gate is broken the office is only open for appointments during office hours, even those keep changing. This means that you may have to take time off work in order to access your unit, like I did. This means that you may have to stand around with movers or a U-haul waiting for someone to show up and open the gate, like me and other customers did when the office wasn't open when it should have been. Corporate can't help when the office is closed despite the website saying it should be open, they can only schedule you an appointment for 24 hours later. Bottom line is: You can't really access your unit from 6am to 9pm like stated on website, so if you need access during these hours, you're better off renting somewhere else.

The door was broken and only open during office hours. I pulled up at 4:57pm 3 minutes till closing. Patrice was absolutely amazing! She let me in and was patient as I got what I needed. I appreciate her patience, she really showed me amazing customer service! I appreciate her and it made me feel better being a customer here!

Kathryn at the HWY 54 location was really helpful. She provided tour of the storage. Provided lots of info of things that I didn’t think to ask. She even called to make sure my move into the storage went well and to see if I had questions or concerns.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!! They will raise your rates consistently while you're there. I currently am being charged $273 for a unit that is being advertised at $73 on their website. When you call to ask questions no one ever answers the phone or returns your call from the voicemails you leave. TERRIBLE BUSINESS WITH NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I would give a 0 star if I could.

I placed a reservation through the website for less than a week before the move-in date. Even though the reservation was made late at night, I received a call the very next morning from one of the most unpleasantly aggressive people I have ever heard in my life, informing me that I would have to "confirm" my renting the space or it would be "put back on the market". I pointed out that I had already reserved it. "Well did you PAY FOR IT?!" was her nastily snide response. I'd had barely an hour of sleep and was in no mood to be browbeaten by this person, so I just said "I don't have time for this," and hung up. The next time I logged on to the site, I found that my reservation had been canceled. (It's worth noting this location had plenty of vacancy every time I checked, so it's not like they were losing money from my 6-day reservation.) Why do they bother having you set a date and time of move-in if they're just going to have some pushy employee call the very next day to demand you pay IMMEDIATELY or they cancel your reservation? The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because the gentleman at the location whom I'd spoken to previous was very kind and helpful. But if they're trying to encourage people to rent from them, hiring rude phone-jockeys to call and berate people who are already stressed from moving is a terrible way to do it. That's probably the reason they always have lots of vacancy there.

We went there to pick-up and deliver a hospital bed to one of our church members. The unit was well lit, organized and was easily accessible

SCAM ALERT!! This place will continue to jack your rent up the longer you have a space there!! Originally was paying $55/month and now I pay $135/month for the same small space. They’ve increased rent 4 times saying “we’ve just had company wide rent increases”. Weird, because they are currently advertising the same unit at the same location for $61/month… More like they know people don’t want to deal with the inconvenience of moving and without a contract they can do whatever they want! Beware of this scam!!!

I rented a unit for almost two months and everything was perfect. Scott was extremely helpful in getting my account closed out without any problems. I would highly recommend this location for a shortage unit!!
