The History of Hallandale

In Hallandale's earliest days, the area was used as a hunting ground for the Seminole Native American tribe. It wasn't until the late 1800s that European settlers established permanent homes in the area. Henry Flagler, a Florida railroad tycoon, tasked one agent's relatives with the task of founding a settlement in the area. A trading post was built and advertisers touted the region's warm climate and affordability. Through the early 1900s, the area grew very slowly but steadily, eventually functioning as an agricultural community for quite some time.

It was incorporated as a city twice - once in 1927, and then again in 1947. In 1999, Hallandale officially changed its name to Hallandale Beach.
