Public Storage Self-Storage Units at 99 S Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA

Customer service isn't professional at all some kid with curly hair refused to let me in the gate when I was there 5 mins before they closed I told him I only have a few items to drop in my storage the uhaul truck I have got to be back by 7 and I was unaware of them closing at 5pm. They need to let you still have access to your storage if your paying for it even when the office is closed

They doubled my rent the first year I rented here. Also this facility is extremely confusing and it's likely there will be stairs between the ground floor and your unit because it's a hastily converted old car dealer... PASS!... please consider their competitors of which there are multiple nearby. Or... Consider selling or throwing stuff away that you are planning on locking away and never seeing again anyway, then we can put them out of biz for good! 👍

Best public storage branch I’ve ever been to! I’ve had units in many different cities but the customer service here is top tier! Mau was super helpful and really helped my family and I with all our needs.

Broken elevators.

If you are looking for a nice, clean, secure and convenient storage facility where you are almost sure to find an available space, you should contact this Public Storage at 99 S Van Ness. I have had to upgrade a few times from a small starter space to a large garage-size space once renovations commenced on my home. Each time was easy and smooth. The staff at this location are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very professional. I have not ever had an unpleasant experience. Having a great staff on site and the facility kept very clean helps me feel good about my decision to store my belongings here. I highly recommend it. Oh and there is parking...A BIG PLUS IN SF!

In honesty, Mau delivered amazing customer service. Very pleased of how attentive and helpful she was the day we walked in. You can tell of how much they prioritize their customers by how well taken care of the property is, and how quick she is to guide us through. Thank you guys so much.

I absolutely love the service at this storage facility. Mau the manager made it so easy for us to navigate in easing the process on which storage, ,pricing, etc. to select. The customer service is amazing and we loved the vibe in the office.

This wasn’t the closet to me but it was by far the kindest. I had tried two other storage places before this one. The lady that helped me was very kind and helpful. I had a long and stressful time finding a proper place to keep my belongings and Mau made it so stress free and simple. Very grateful to have cross paths with her.

I reserved a storage in this location and had a call with the lease office agent to meet the day after. But she didn’t show up until an hour later after I called their customer service to learn what was going on. Because I felt it was so unreliable, I found another cheaper storage company nearby while waiting and left when the agent arrived so late. No follow-up call from her. I don’t recommend Public Storage as they cannot even keep their initial rental appointment for a new customer. It says a lot about what the whole lease would have looked like.

The best Public Storage site in SF! Interiors are clean, well lit and maintained. Staff are professional and helpful, especially the manager Carlos. Units are mid-range price but the location has great street access and customer parkng ( a real plus in this area of SF) Rental spaces go quickly because of the frequent promo deals so don't shop around too much.

Facilities and staff are awesome! Carlos was super helpful in making sure everything went smoothly.

The space is fine, what is frustrating is their hours (close at 5pm on weekends and 6pm weekdays) and that if you leave at 5pm when they close, they will email and text you to notify you left late. It just is giving me a bad customer experience. Suggestion to close 15 minutes earlier if they don’t want you there up until actual closing time?

Mel and Kevin were a great help while renting two spaces on different days. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable they made the process go smoothly and quickly. Another plus is the high ceilings in the units which add a lot of extra storage space. If you're moving lots of items, it is easier if there are at least two people to deal with entering codes for self closing doors and the elevators while maneuvering items and carts. I'm happy we chose this location and company.

The elevators are often out of order and I hate their hours. Opening at 9:30? Really? The hours often seem to change on a whim as well. I am raising them from three stars to four stars and that is strictly due to the employees here. They've been kind and understanding and extremely helpful. Thanks..

Pretty poor experience, compared to other storage units I've had. Services are inconsistent. Can't recommend.

update: The staff at the place has improved a lot over the last year. The rental went from 98 dollars to 236, over twice the amount in a year and two months. The black lady teresa at the office said I need to reserve my van indefinitely because their elevator is broken. Their crew was blowing dust into my van and onto my face. I couldn’t see anything and injured my finger because of that. When I walked into the office and asked them when they will stop blowing the entire garage of garbage into the vehicles of customers and told them I was injured, she started screaming at me and told me there is nothing she could do. Then she screamed and screamed at me over and over again. Telling me she would call me weeks later when the elevator is back up again. She’s harassing all of the other customers trying to get them to move out of their storage on other floors. Then five minutes later, without any new information, she picked up a phone call from another customer and suddenly started saying her goal is to get the elevator back up and running today. She tried to force me out of the office with my finger injured and said she would call the police if her yelling wouldn’t get me to leave. So I called the police instead. Now 30 minutes later their elevator is back up and running without anybody fixing it. Throughout the entire process I was nice and cordial. There was not a sentence she said that was not screaming. She also locked the office door and wouldn’t let me go into the office because I asked her why she was telling different customers completely different answers within the span of 20 minutes. She’s absolutely insane and wouldn’t stop abusing customers who got injured and ask legitimate questions about her insane behavior. Now their elevator is broken again 40 minutes later. As I am waiting for the police, another customer told me they raise their price 40 dollars every six months once you store your things here because they knew their customers couldn’t get their things out in time.

I used this facility for about 5 months and it was nothing short of amazing. Always clean, climate controlled, and, most importantly, SUPER SAFE! Their staff was always kind and attentive and they even offered me complimentary lockout services on the spot. 100% would recommend!

Great experience storing our stuff here! Carlos is a homie. Try to come here before 5pm the latest tho because they close at 5:50pm.

Kind staff, I'm stupid and Lost the keys to my lock. I asked him what I should do, and they told me I can take it off myself, it would be quicker. They would just have to accompany me, which is cool. Unfortunately it took a couple of days to get bolt cutters. well, I'm ready to go cut my lock and buy a new one. I'm glad they carry effective locks for a reasonable price, that helps.

Great property. The staff are the best. I wasn't sure what size space I needed and was just feeling completely overwhelmed with my move. Mao is the best. She showed kindness as patience. She took her time to help and show me the different spaces available and helped me decide on which one I needed. She made the whole process smooth. Thank you PS for hiring kind employees like Mao.

Mau and Carlos are the best, they even helped me with my recycling at the end of the day! Very convenient location and clean space too.

Moved out today, the storage is temperature controlled so all my stuff are in good condition. Also, Mau has been very helpful for my move-in and move-out processes, everything’s made so easy!

TLDR; AVOID! Trust the low reviews. If you are looking for super convenient storage in SF, I switched to Public Storage's main competitor located right at the freeway entrance. Better hours, more convenient location and the staff is kind and respectful as opposed to rude and slovenly. Second and last time I will use Public Storage for my storage needs. I am a full-time traveller and I keep a storage unit for when I am in town. I often am traveling in or out of town and need to swap a few things in storage. It turns out this is often right near the end this facility's access hours. I have tried my best each time to leave before 5pm or 6pm. However on multiple occasions I left at 6:01, 6:07, etc. Each time the employees made sure I knew I was inconveniencing them and were rude. Additionally, Public Storage's systems automatically lock your code if you leave even a minute after closing time. You have to go talk to their rude employees. This happened only TWICE. I only accessed the unit an average of 1-2 times a month. The second time they locked my code, I was told that if it happened again they would evict me. This is after they raised the price on me aggressively. Return customer turned

It's secure af but it's a pain to enter in your code# at every door/ gate/ elevator. Climate controlled so it's liminally cool, you're nowhere. Total backrooms vibe.

I've only been renting here for a few months and so far its been ok-i feel that my stuff is secure and I'm safe when I'm alone at my unit.I'm NOT happy with the rent rates,and also the fact that you have to pay for renters insurance which looks like a big rip off to me.also,I was told that my rent will go up every few months!its obscene,but what can I do?I need the space.its too bad the company totally takes advantage of that.

I just rented a 5 × 15 at this location. On arrival I was met with a warm welcome & great service. Kevin, one of the employees, made my experience great. He listened & was very helpful. I'm glad I picked this location.

Excellent kind service!

Pretty clean most of the time . One thing that was not cool....their elevators were broken for about 2-3 weeks, which then forced everyone to use the staircase outside to reach their destination.. I'm not sure what they were able to offer people that are disabled, hopefully they rent out the first floor to the disabled because I had overheard an employee say that it's something that 'happens' ... the elevator breaks down and it's not repaired that day or even the following day 😕

Tevin is quite literally the nicest and most helpful customer service representative I’ve ever had the chance to interact with. His energy is unmatched. The literal bright spot to mine and my partners day. Thanks my guy you were amazing!
