Disappointing Experience with Customer Service and Security
I visited my Public Storage unit today to retrieve some items I needed to take to someone, only to discover that my lock had been picked. Public Storage had placed another lock on the unit afterward to secure it. Rose, the on-site agent, informed me that they had "tried" contacting me about this situation. However, I never received any voicemails, texts, or emails from them. They claimed that the random, unrecognized numbers that had called me were their attempts to reach me, but without proper communication like a text or voicemail, how was I supposed to know? This, in my opinion, shows minimal effort on their part—about as much effort as my 11-year-old puts into finding something when she doesn’t really care about it: almost none.
What really gets me is that Rose left me a voicemail when I was signing up for the unit, proving they know how to leave messages. But when it doesn’t benefit them financially, they suddenly forget. Had I known about this issue, I wouldn’t have wasted my customer’s time.
Public Storage said they could get their on-call locksmith out to open the unit, but it would cost me $60. They offered me a $60 credit for next month’s rent, but since I won’t be staying another month, they said they couldn’t help me. Basically, once they have your money, you’re on your own.
The 10' x 30' ground-level unit I rented has no gated access or security doors, meaning anyone could walk up and pop the locks. It was a mistake to rent this unit, even though the easy access was tempting. The location is newer and clean, unlike the 4034 E McDowell Rd location, which is old, filthy, and smells like weed. The McDowell location also has poor security—transient people get in somehow, there are no lights in the units, and the steep pavement grading makes parking difficult, especially with a trailer.
Public Storage needs to invest in proper security and customer service. Their lack of attention to these areas shows they care more about collecting rent than protecting customers’ belongings.
Rosie, who runs the East Thomas Road Phoenix location, is absolutely wonderful! She was fabulous to work with and did all she could to assist me in a tough situation. When we ended up needing additional space, we chose to rent here as well.

Don't post hours if you're not actually open. I have things to do. Running around wasting my gas trying to find a place that's open so I can pay my bill is infuriating. Stay away from this company. They jacked up the rates another 20% yet seem to have smashed their staffing.
EDIT: I called the number on the door. The agent thought I was at a location on Curry somewhere. I told her that had to be at least ten miles away. Then she came back and said the store doesn't open until 9:30am and I questioned whether it was worth wasting more time. So I wait fifteen minutes to do this update. The store is not open. She never even asked for my actual location. Sometime during the call she became disconnected even though the call didn't drop. This company is a complete joke.

The facility is very clean, and the process was easy to apply and get keys. However, locking the hand trucks after the office closes is really the reason for three stars. Really? This made the unloading process 10x longer with just a dolly. So you have to enter a code to get in the door and elevator, while holding a dolly. I’m sure these carts are not made of gold. I hope this issue is resolved.

I have been renting here since 2/15/24. It is with much distress to say this review is long over due !
I feel there are enough people handling the complaints that I stick to sharing thriving info, like I am right now.
I frequently visit my unit as I’m working to down size my belongings. On most of my visits when I finally find Martha (for she is hardly in the office) she is pushing her cart busy running around checking off her daily assignments. Martha has helped me a few times with different inquiries. One day shortly after I moved in, I got here bit later than usual. When I was finished with my unit and ready to walk home I saw Martha outside by the dumpsters. She too was finished with her day. I asked for a ride and she was glad to help me. I genuinely appreciate her taking me as it was already dark out. On today’s (7/2/24) visit Martha was able to waive my rent increase for three months. That’s definitely invaluable!! I feel Martha genuinely cares about people and helping them when she can. I have always found the restroom clean. Like super clean, just like she keeps the rest of the building! She’s professional, kind and friendly! She’s always smiling and laughing at my ridiculous stories. Martha has always shown phenomenal work ethics. Taking care of small details. Like when she hung the wet floor signs in the mop closet. Martha sincerely cares about her work here and the customers!!

I have rented a unit at the Thomas/28th location for a year now. This is a solid storage facility that is kept very clean and has good air conditioning. Recently I transferred to a different unit, and it was an easy and quick process thanks to Martha who works there. She even brought us one of the carts from downstairs to help us move, which was a big help. I have not had any issues with security - the doors and locks always work as expected.

No one ever work at this facility they don’t have karts small parking lots but the facility is clean
This is the ABSOLUTE WORST storage unit to rent from if I could give it 0 stars I would. My unit along with 15 others have been broken into in the month of December and the dude Robert at the front desk is incompetent and was no help. When I asked for the footage off the surveillance cameras he did not know how to work it and had to call someone else from a different location to come over and retrieve it. I filed a police report and found out December 29th several employees know there are homeless people and squatters living in the units and they do not notify the police. On top of that they do nothing about it. They said it’s not in their policy to call the police and report when peoples stuff is stolen. I later found out the insurance people will try and close your case if you do not have photos and the employees change out the locks and replace your unit with a blue lock before you can even take pictures to provide to the insurance company that your unit was broken into and tampered with. DO NOT RENT HERE. I will be filing a LAWSUIT and this property will be closed. If you have your stuff in here or items of value I do suggest you take it out! ASAP
This location does not provide any security for your belongings. No alarm and only one employee who cannot be found or contacted. Go elsewhere for your storage needs. Bait and switch pricing. Low introductory rate that will increase at least 3X in the first few months. Impossible to get ahold of staff and no one answers the phones. BEWARE: there was a break in at this location December 2023 and over 10 units were vandalized. Staff showed no concern for what happened and has done nothing to make things right.
Great experience at this public storage. Today I had to empty out my unit as I’m moving somewhere else and Martha made it a nice and easy process. If ever I need storage again, Public Storage is who I’ll be using.

Very little space to maneuver a U-Haul truck not many parking spaces if you have people to help you unload put on a dolly and roll through the hallways to your storage unit. Hallways are clean and well lit.

I was helping a friend move into her house when we realized her bottles of liquor and purses were stolen along with other items in her household how is it that this has been going in for a year and no one has thought to fix the issue? Peoples things shouldn’t be getting stolen at $200 a month x 5 months and on time payments and you can’t turn the cameras on and notice someone going in that shouldn’t be? I will be telling her and her husband to get a lawyer. DO NOT RENT HERE.
I was robbed at this location nobody notified me , nobody said a thing. Just acted like it didn't happen even though it was our unit and at least 2 others just from the damage in my unit!

Was robbed a year ago. They didn't even notice that it was looted until I told them that I was robbed. Didn't even get the full amount for insurance. Not even half which was lame. Terrible security. People stay in the elevators at night and the cameras are always messed with or not working. I'm out thanks. One of the working chicks even eyeballed my unit when I opened the door but acted like she was checking a sticker on the locks. So truthfully I think my robbery was an inside job like most of my family and friends told me. The guy working with the 🏍 is awesome and will always be awesome in my book. Thank you.

These units are expensive. Prices increase often. They only have a few carts to use but only when office is open, otherwise they are chain locked to the wall. Elevator near the office is always broken & never an out of order sign on the door.
this place is bad, our stuff was stolen during president day weekend, friday night. They didn't call us until sunday afternoon, apparently other units were broken into as well. I went to this place a week later and saw 20+ replacement locks on different units on all 4 floors. I assume those were also broken into. Don't store your stuff there, alot of homeless people nearby and thieves use the shopping carts left by the dumpsters to steal your stuff. District manager is useless. i'm in the process of going to small claims.

Like other's have stated, DO NOT STORE YOUR ITEMS HERE. Lock was drilled off and replaced with a different one. Management didn't even know it happened and they make you wait a week to get someone to cut off the lock. By that time there is no security footage of the theft because they only keep footage for a week. If you wanna have your stuff stolen come here. They do nothing to try and protect people's stuff. Even wanted to charge me because I left trash by the trashcan which is locked up 24/7 and not usable by paying customers.

I would not even consider renting a unit from this Public Storage location. Our unit was broken into and the two managers at this location could not have put less effort into maintaining any store policies or handing over critical footage over to the PHX police department.
Our Public Storage issued lock was broken and we had to pay to replace that? Our boxes were ripped through and belongings and pictures were rummaged and thrown on the floor. As we walked through our destroyed unit with PHX police we even discovered that whoever broke into our unit left behind a used drug syringe.
There was not even a mass email sent out to all renters from this location as common courtesy? The managers at this location had such poor communication and professionalism.
We’ve expressed how uncomfortable we feel knowing that this was not followed up on and that multiple units have also experienced break ins.
Do not trust this company and specifically this location to store or “protect” your belongings.

Management are absolute tools. Not even a clue. Never have been, with the exception of Ben. Ben is a real storage manager, the rest are lame. Burglary on my unit. No security, just automated building. Ben works at a different location. I miss Ben

I moved out here from New Mexico and decided to store all of my personal thing's with public storage. This was August of 2022. I had to keep thing's in storage until I was able to move into a bigger home. When I went to the storage unit the lock had been replaced but no one contacted me. Come to find out my storage unit was broken into. I would not recommend storing your personal belongings here. Luckily I have insurance so I can file a claim and have my items replaced. I contacted the corporate office and all they did was send me to the escalation department. The girl read from a script and was empathic whatsoever. This is upsetting to seem.
DON'T STORE YOUR ITEMS HERE, UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR THING'S MISSING

The basement has a bug infestation. I mentioned it to staff and they have not solved this. I store my company equipment in this unit and it has embarrassed me on more than one occasion to find bug coming out of the equipment. Also they do not have seperate hours for businesses so don't count on getting an early start

A lot of important things were stolen from my unit here. The thieves were able to climb through the really insecure 'ceiling' despite the locked shutter door. Bummer.

I reserved a unit online kind of last minute before moving and the process was so easy! When I was starting to move items into my unit, the staff was very helpful by letting me know where I should park in relation to my unit for easy access and going over the hours when front desk associates are available if assistance is needed. The entire facility is extremely clean and easy to navigate. I’m very happy to be renting a unit here!

Angel is the property manager and Kim was her trainee on the day I visited and signed up for a storage unit. The facility was very clean, Angel was knowledgeable, and both ladies were very welcoming and patient. Angel walked me through the online sign-up process, as I did the site visit due to the online price. I've moved in, and Angel remembers me when I stop by. Well taken care of facility and great staff. Seems like they are rising the prices of there units. BUT THE STAFF IS SO NICE AND HELPFUL, truly understanding, I fell behind because of a hospital stay. They worked with me and aloud me to split my payments and spared my unit for the auction chopping block!!
There's kind of a silly and ridiculous way of handling the carts here. Additionally, there are too few for the amount of people at the building at any given time, and finally appear to be inaccessible on Sundays. It's a good place in every way, but one of the most important: transporting your items, is very much a pain to do.
Perhaps instead of chaining the carts, instead installing locks on the wheels like any grocery store in the valley.

Very clean and inside. The aisles are more than wide enough for the carts. Though it seems like one of the big doors are always out of order.

They have Dollies. You just can't use them because nobody can find the keys to unchain them from the wall. Most of the elevators don't work. Nobody is ever in the office during office hours.
