About Greenfield

Greenfield is a lively Wisconsin town located about 7 miles southwest of Milwaukee. This thriving suburb is a bedroom community of Milwaukee, home to many professionals who make the daily commute to the city for work. Greenfield is home to many local organizations that contribute to the sense tightknit of community, including several village youth sports teams, the Greenfield Concert Band and the village celebration committee.

The History of Greenfield

Like many parts of the U.S., the land where Greenfield now sits was first home to Native Americans. In the late 1830s, the town of Kinnikennick was established by the territorial legislature. Just over 400 people called the town home by 1840, and its name was changed to Greenfield shortly thereafter.

Greenfield was the last municipality in Milwaukee County to be incorporated, a measure taken in 1957 to avoid complete annexation by Milwaukee.
